I've noticed there have been no new skins lately. Whats going on? Did everybody lose interest?

It does seem like there is lack of new skins. I blame the most recent update. I'm still trying to figure out how to fully utilize phong shading so I can have class specific skins and have phong lighting...

Another reason for the lack of new stuff might be because there isn't much we haven't seen already. Not much anyone can do anymore and still be original/unique.

Or maybe it's because it's summer...and us skinners/modellers are just lazy. (That's my excuse)

simply put - it has been the update.

I refuse to put out inferior material, and as of right now my video card, ATI 9700 pro, while it can handle phong shaders (FarCry, Doom 3, SWAT 4, Unreal 2 all of these work just to name a few), it cannot handle the VERSION of phong shaders Valve decided to use. Not that Valve are being buttheads.... it's just that my card is old.

I actually have plans to re-do a LOT of stuff, plus things I haven't done yet, but for now it's all on hold. It's really hard to determine if something is working right or not if you can't see it

Well I found out that if you delete the .vmt file for the gear it uses phong.

It uses default phong. Its hard to test whether or not the blend of specular and exponent looks right if it isn't working at all.

Unfortunately, it looks like we won't see much new stuff being posted in these forums until maybe the next update.
(or the mention of a new update...somehow that spurs new skins)

Pixel Shader 3.0 will allow Valve to expand their use of shaders further than Phong and generic "lol blur", so it's all for a reason.

DoD:S could use way more historically accurate player and weapon skins :).

They had access to the real weapons with 4.0 too and look how that came out ;)
