[MWIP] - New Class Selections!

05-27-2003, 09:13 PM
I've started to create my own set of class selection pictures. I'm in the process of making them and it might take me a while. Anyway, here is what they will look like:

US Garand (http://www.planetmedalofhonor.com/mohcomics/us_garand.jpg)

British Enfield (http://www.planetmedalofhonor.com/mohcomics/brit_enfield.jpg)

German MG42 (http://www.planetmedalofhonor.com/mohcomics/ger_MG42.jpg)

Any thoughts? Should I even bother finishing a whole set?

That's a cool idea, using Ron Volstead's art for the classes...

however, with the German ones it would be far cooler if you used the swastika in the background rather than that bizarre iron cross flag that DOD uses.

Finish it definentially!!! They are great. BTW the guy is holding an MG34, not a 42.

I'm sorry but I wont be putting a Swastika behind a German soldier. Maybe if DOD releases Waffen SS in the future.

Can you find a wavy Brit and German flag like the US one? Just a suggestion, I'll use it nevertheless!

Those all rock except for this...

For the British and Germans, you should use a real flag like you did for the Americans instead of the square DoD pic. Also, for the Germans, use the Third Reich Battle Flag. And finally, make the pics rectangles like Trigger's, not square.

edit: I started writing before the last couple of guys posted. Anways, why won't you use a swastica?

Using one doesn't make you or anyone a Nazi. We want it cause it's realistic. I don't see why you would only put it in if the Waffen SS was in DoD. The whole German Army used it.

05-27-2003, 09:53 PM
Understood, it would be my preferance but this is your work here. Here is another suggestion, The american flag is "wavy" which adds a third dimension to the picture. Adding that effect to the Germans and British would be a grand idea as well.

EDIT: I guess great minds think alike. While I was writing the above reply two others posted thier similar hopes.

05-27-2003, 09:55 PM
Thanks for all the suggestions. I searched for a wavy flag and one of the waviest I could find for British was the one I used. And I couldnt find a real wavy German flag. If anyone can find a good one and post it here I'll consider using it.

Oh, and for the US flag, use a 48 star flag. You can tell that's a 50 star one.

Yeah, I like these, I'd definately use them if you released. On a side note, where dod you get the illusetrations you used for those? I've got a bit of a collection of colorplates myself, but it looks like you've got some that I haven't yet found.

It would look much better with a swastika.

Nice work so far.
That garand selection image looks better than the garand performs.

I've just found a lot of pictures over time and saved them. I cant think of any specific website. Sorry.

Exactly where do people get these pics (yes i know you said you couldn't find a specific site, but there has to be some gallery of this work, bringing me to question #2).

Who makes these pics, i see them everywhere on the forums, i'd love to get a hold of some of these babies.

Looks good, although I'd really love to see a swastika behind the Kraut, if you release these I'll probably use em.

looking very nice. some of the class selections lately have been sub par so this is a pleasant change :)

Maybe you could zip them up and post your collection somewhere, I'm sure everyone would like that, myself in particular.

They look great. Please finish the set, and I really like the sepia toning of them.

Ok I've completed the British pictures, and almost all of the American, but I saved the enfield file as a TGA to test it in game and the picture didnt show up. Does anyone know how I can make it work? Did I miss a step?

Errr I remember having this problem in 3.1 once, but I've totally forgotten how I fixed it then. Just double check picture size, color depth, and the actual size of the file compared to original.

05-30-2003, 08:29 PM
I thought the size might be a problem so I made it the same as the original, I dont know about depth and actual size or whatever...

i like them, very nice work. im pretty sure the pics must be 354x290 24 bit colours.

05-30-2003, 08:48 PM
I changed it to like 300x290 24 bit and it still didnt work.

Trigger
05-30-2003, 09:26 PM
Your problem is most likely compression. You have to make sure that you use no compression for the image, otherwise, they won't show up, I've had that problem myself.

05-31-2003, 10:38 AM
What's compression?

Trigger
05-31-2003, 12:10 PM
Well, different image types use different means of compressing information within them as a means of reducing file size. Targa images use something called RLE compression. When you save the file, you should have an option to use the compression or not, you can't use it because otherwise dod can't recognize it. You also have to save it in 24 bit resolution.

If your're using PSP to save the pictures as TGA then I'd get recommend you got PS because I had the same problem.

Any TGA's I made in PSP wouldn't show up in-game. But any made with PS worked prefectly.

So how are these coming along?

The Cheat

Not to be an ass, but the MG in your MG42 selection pic is actually an MG34. You can tell because the cooling jacket is much smaller and it is actually cylindrical, unlike the MG42. Other than that they rock.
