Dod_stug_b3 is finally ready!


For those that haven't played it before: dod_stug is a flag capping map with 5 flags. It's focused around a tank on a bridge. BUT! unlike 'all the other bridge maps' it's not a camp fest, is very evenly balanced, and it's quite easy to break over the river and flank your opposing snipers and mgs.

-=Major Changes since Beta 1=-

Added Ladders from the river up to the bridge.
Added Sewer tunnels for allies and axis from their right flank into the river.

-=Fixes=-

Fixed player clips on all the building rooftops to stop exploits.
Blocked accessing opposing spawn areas.
Heaps of minor model placement issues.

-=Custom Features=-

Custom models of a German Stug III tank (normal and damaged).

I said it on the last version... this is a textbook DOD:S map. In design look, and playability this is a great custom good job Lard. If this one doesn't have any bugs or exploits will this be the final version?

I'll probably do a little more polish on it before I release it as final, the sky box needs some work, and maybe a few more decals and objects here and there.


Have you guys tried this release? I just jumped on empty server that was running it and the tank models didn't show up, slightly worried... Can anyone confirm that the tanks are ok?

I just deleted my local version and redownloaded my own map, and it's working for me now, that was weird!!!

This looks like a really nice map. It reminds me of a DoD one, with that ladder beside the bridge.

Hopefully some of the servers I play on regularly will have this on, if not I'll be sure to point it out! :)

Been playing b3 a bit online and I've noticed it's a bit slower so I'm going to work on the fps quite a bit, as well as a few little spots where you can get stuck. Any other requests?

Played it late last night, after the server kind of cleared out. Everyone agreed however it looks beautiful (nice destruction, fun layout...I like how the elevation changes).

The only thing I can think to suggest is making the spawn exits smoother (so you don't have to jump) but I'm pretty sure that's been suggested already.

Gosh but I love that stuggie. So refreshing to see a different model!

Yup I've fixed up the fence jump outta the allied spawn already, probably needs a little more work tho,

I'm also thinking, with the steps into the axis tank workshop, making steps from both sides leading up to the door, as currently allies have to run up the hill then turn around up the stairs to get into the building, it would make it a little easier for allies then.

Lard, on a full server (tonight) we were getting a lot of choke and low fps reports. Any more optimization in the works for the next version?

Yup noodle definately, I have a sneaking suspicion that b3 might have been a fast vis build by mistake, because I compared it with a new compile and b3 was around 10 - 15 fps slower on average than my latest compile. I'll try to get a b4 out real soon.
