My 4th of july present to the dod comunity

Alright guys, as promised here is the beta 2 release of hill_classic

This is beta 2 of dod_hill_classic by Someth|ng W|cked A.K.A. -Stars -N- Straps- Ameriki||er



* Changes since since beta 1 *

-Performance tweaks, better fps

-Destroyed house redone and turned into allied spawn, closer the objectives

-Changed exterior layout of hilltop fort (trench models by waldo)
-Changed axis tower entrance for better flow
-Changed hilltop capture zone to only require 2 allies to cap and it now takes 7 seconds instead of 10

-Added mortars
-Added dead Cows (models by pedroleum)
-Added dead soldiers (models by pedroleum)
-Added ambient sounds and turned volume up on existing ones

-Allied players now spawn with TNT which can be used to blow walls creating more entrances into axis fort

Im glad you lik ethe updates, the mortar sound is the best one i ould find in the default dod sounds so sorry about that . . .

And of course you can add the map to any mappack you like

I still havent been able to play my map with anyone else yet . . .

I tryed to start my own server to play with a friend but my router is giving me a hassel

played it today and was funny (32 slot server) - just the last flag is nearly impossible to take :(

my fps were also very bad - 9-15 fps (normaly 30-50 fps) - maybe put some mortars for allied which fires direct to the first flag from axis or something like this.

i find the map realy good but it needs some small improvements (fps, some possibility to take last flag, maybe more detonation walls).

You nailed it on this release Someth|ngW|cked,

It's just like the hill (classic) of old. People are already crying about being sniped by the germans. It just takes teamwork by the allies. Oops I know teamwork is a bad word to some, but you can't be a lone ranger on this map and expect to cap it.

I do have a request though. Would you consider making a version with a forest of trees in the valley and maybe some scattered trees along the upper pathways and calling it hillforest or something?

yeah i agree, the map is ok, it just needs more cover for the allies and then it will rock.

i've limited snipers and mg's to 2 per team and it was not so critical with being killed too early.

but a fortrest of trees could help with FPS i think becaus you don't see the whole map permanently.

This map is now available in dodirectory map pack #38 - now hosted on a new server - you should get your maximum download speed (well up to 100 meg ;) )

I was thinking about releasing a snow version of the map which would improve fps because it would get rid of the water and water fog that is in the map, the water fog draws multiple sprites which are drawn from almost everywhere in the map and the water itself is an obvious fps killer on most cards

As far a doing a forest i might do that some time in the future but for now i am going to concentrate on finishing dod_gamein before i do any major changes to hill_classic

I run the map at around 40-50 fps average which is what i get on most other stock maps so i am not sure why your getting such a huge fps drop
