Looks pretty solid! I think I see a resemblance to the American side of Sturm, is this right? I was always a fan of Sturm... which, from what I gather is very similar to another map: Merderet. I'm not sure which is based on which (I always assumed Merderet was the original but I'm not sure). I always thought Sturm was better though... both thanks to atmosphere and improved layout.

I guess one thing I recall about Sturm is that it the streets were rather wide and that it generally favored rifles. I think this characteristic would translate well to Source, which could use a few more urban themed, rifle-friendly maps (as opposed to entirely wide open maps that practically force you to use rifles).

Yeah so far as I know Sturm was probably a remake of Meredet since Meredet looks far more rough, and seems more simple.

You make a good point about the streets, as you can see this is just one corner of the map and its already like a third of the size of flash, so the map will be large. And the bridge itself is huge, much bigger than in the original sturm to accomodate rifles and intense under-bridge fighting with assaults etc.

to clear up, i first made dod_ramelle.. in like a weekend :P released a beta,kept working on it, then with beta 2.0 it was added to dod official rotation,

I reworked and cleaned it up alitle thus it became merderet also to do with the name and dod going retail (waldo was responsible for the flying hill :P )

afther that i decided to rework it from scratch, with new technics we developed over the years, end result was diffrent enough for a fresh name, and since i already put out the german named dod_Jagd i went for dod_Sturm being shorter and easyer to remember :P

enough with the story

looks good to me fun to see it snow themed, i would added alitle detail to the arched house in the first pic, or known as The stronghold, it feels abit sqaure

This map looks good. Only crit I have is that there are more and more snow maps and I'm about to finish my snow map!!:rolleyes:

Hope snow maps aren't old hat for you guys now, but I think the fun of playing it will be worth it. Sorry for not having enough screenshots out there, and to add insult to injury these are a bit old not quite up to my current standards. Expect more very soon!

Anemia literally means "without blood", which I think is kind of a recurring theme with snow battles in general, just being bled dry. So I wanted to make it sound harsh and unforgiving to add a barren atmosphere.

Hope that makes some sense XD

sturm is a very difficult map to full caps because the last flags are far away from spawn and not very accessible

If you can correct that, Ramelle, Merderet and Sturm was always difficult to FC ! Try to inspire with a map like dod_saints (bridge and also 5 flags) to make easier FC !

I wish we had new textures and models to work with though, this is looking like a lot of the Kalt clones. Almost all custom maps nowadays are looking the same to me.

Why change a good thing ;p

Drastic changes in terms of texturing and modelling end up looking pretty silly in DoD:S. Its actually very important in my view to try to match the general feel of a game, in my eyes. Trying to flush the map with custom stuff to look as far as possible from the official stuff is a bad decision.

Its much simpler to make CS:S maps in that respect.

While that is very true to sort out the truly great mappers from the very good mappers, I still think our community today is divided between good designs and bad designs first and foremost. There are still many people who can stand out just by producing a great design (layout), because we don't have enough of those guys as it is.



I've seen this map on Mapcore and I must say what stands out most is the bridge brushwork. Truly first class by the looks of it. Good job :)

It looks fantastic, I don't think it looks to much like kalt too. No it really does look great I can't wait to see this one in action.
Hey on the church tower, where did you get the model of the cross? is it brush work or a model? I need one just like that.

*edit* Imagesocket looks like a good host, they even have automatic thumbnails (Look at the link at the bottom of your pictures) I might have to convert from photobucket...

I was in agreeance with new_b, but your last batch of screenshots looks amazing and very differant from kalt and the kalt-klones.

Hmm, had this stuff all along just not polished, why its so hard to hear people dismiss your map like that.

All in all I just think its pretty infuriating people chose my map to <3<3<3<3 on when there are plenty of other dudes to crucify for using certain textures etc. But theres always someone there to rain on your parade :)

your map deserves good criticism, compared to 90% of customs being completely hopeless and not worth the time to comment on.

It looks very legit, dont worry.

There are three options (two axis one allied) from the bottom of the riverbed, and obvioulsy the two ends of the bridge.

Yeah its a concern I've been getting, when I playtest it with the CAL guys, if it becomes an issue I'll take a look. TBQH, I don't think it will be a problem so long as people aren't expecting it to be dod_sturm carbon copied.

Beta in two days, one for soundscapes one for error fix hopefully.
