Terrain Alignment

I need a little help with terrain alignment. I seem to spend hours using the vertex tool aligning up corners of the brush so the sew tool will work when its made into a displacement, fighting and correcting illegal solid errors. After compiling I still get gaps between brushes.

It is really starting to get frustrating and putting a damper on my map creation. I'm sure I'm going about it the wrong way. What is the best way to create terrain with a 3 dimension feel an keep the edges and vertices aligned?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers.

Use brushes that are identical in size and shape, and use the same level of displacement for all connecting brushes.

Two adjacent brushes just need to have their edges of the surface that is displaced along the same line. Think of it in terms of 3d geometry, they have the exact same line - point to point.

You can have it the full length of the edge you're sewing to, or exactly half, meeting one corner and the center. Think of how the engine would synch up points that aren't lined up... it doesn't make sense.

Also experiment with powers, because they don't have to be the same, but you'll see what does and doesn't allow sewing with experimentation.

To sew the displacements they need to be flush with eachother on the face(s) with the displacements, if thye are not flush and you still want them to be sewn you can use the RAISE TO tool and set the value to 0 and use it along the touching displacements as long as they are vertically flush

I made a tutorial a while ago about correct displacement use:
