question about distributing custom sounds

I've been getting some strange actions and wondered if you guys could help. I have a custom sound in a map of mine, let's call it "audio.wav". That file located at dod/sound/mapname/audio.wav like it should be. It plays just fine for me ingame. Now when I pass this map to a friend, I use Pakrat to bspzip all the files, INCLUDING the sound file. I can open it back up and see that the sound is included in the bsp. Now I pass the map to my friend and when he plays the game, he gets nothing. No sound, nothing. All the custom textures are there, but not the custom sound. His console says the file could not be located. Is there something special I need to be doing for audio stuff that's different than everything else?

Could be wrong but I dont think u can distribute sounds by pakratting as the game executes it in a logical path, ie it expects to find it on a clients pc in the same place it is on yours.

I guess you need to make a res and upload it to clients from the server along with the map.

this is a known and reported issue.

You can include sound files w/pakrat sucessfully. They have to be used in a custom env_soundscape though.

Check out dod_pier and dod_sora, they have custom sounds included in the .bsp. Note the paths.
