dod_switch conversion

Hello. It has been a while since I was in these forums. I just started mapping again too :). So, for my redemption project I was looking at remaking dod_switch, I thought it was a good map which I haven’t seen a remake yet. So I was wondering, would it be possible to take original brushwork of the dod version (it’s the roads, I can't do roads...) and import it to Hammer. I was wondering if you guys had some pointers on how to do this, or some good pointers on how to make roads that go uphill and still look good while turning.
I do plan on ONLY using critical brushwork and making it mostly myself. I also plan on giving total credits to the original.

I've just finished remaking my old 1.3 map, took ages. ok things to do:
Turn any fancy brush work into func_details
Remove pretty much all entities, almost all have been made redundant
Select all (edit > select all) and press shift+a and change the scale of the textures to 0.25 then retexture the whole map :D
Now how I did my roads (I have lots of twists too):
What I did was pretty much remove the inclinded roads and put in horizontal nodraw surfaces and put a displacement on top. Avoid making inclines with 2 triangles (which you have to use if making inclines of different sizes) as they will make the compiling process longer and likely raise fps...
So the hidden nodraw surfaces are really big steps wth a displacement overtop to hide them and make it look source-ie
But to use origional brushwork at all you need the authors permission (unless it's you, I forget who made it, surgeon perhaps?)

Switch was an official map in 1.1 (Steam) and so on.
The original switch was made by izuno I believe, he still posts on these forums, so I'd actually ask him if he's remaking it himself before you go too far ahead on the project. :)

Yeah man, i'd really love to see switch for source! I miss often miss it very much. I think it would work fantastically for source.
Now get mapping!

I couldn't stand that map. It had some of the most awkward chokepoints... gah. Couldn't handle it.
Switch was an awesome map, look forward to seeing it if it gets off the ground.

For 1.3 this was a really big problem on most pubs. But with the different style of play for source, I think this map would be absolutely amazing.
Good luck with the remake. I really hope this great map gets the quality it deserves.
