hey guys,

Here's what i've been working on the past couple weeks. It's a small/mid size half destroyed city. It's a fictional city.

That is an amazing job. It's a nice change from the undestroyed stock maps. :)

Just to throw it out there, you should take your screenshots in widescreen, it looks so much better, in my humble opinion.

Now that Valve has announced destroyable objectives in the next update. I'll be inserting at least one destroyable objective for sure, a tank or a flak 88.

I've anxiously been waiting for this update as it also has falling snow, which means I can finally release my nightime snow forest map as well, dod_flurry.

To be completely honest, I'm not looking forward to playing any of your new maps. To be even more honest, that saddens me because these screenshots look amazing and I'm very excited to run through them by myself! Your mapping speed and eye for textures is crazy.

The detail does look good, hope it's not too harsh with optimising, and therefore hope the gameplay is as good as it looks.

I like the war torn look, destroyed buildings and the lighting adds to the atmosphere too.

Reminds me of a dod 1.3 map called dod_dogwarV05.

This looks completely amazing. I really hope this is optimized. Your other maps look amazing, but could really use some balancing and area portals, etc. If that all works out, a map with a unique style like this could be one of the coolest out there.

Thanks for pointing out those things furyo, and neutrino, no i've finally settled on this sky. It took awhile to get the proper lighting/fog/skybox combo that gave the ambience I was looking for.

Finally we get a map with a war torn and dirty look. I just hope that with all that rubble and destroyed buildings it plays not too slow due to extreme camping - although it mostly depends on the ppl on a server.

I love nothing more than destroyed cities, this could turn out to be my favorite map. It reminds me a lot of dod_stadtkampf (sp?) with tall buildings and rubble. I do hope it's at least the size of pier. Also, I agree with Fuzzdad that people shouldn't be able to get on roofs in this one, but I hope lots of the buildings are accessible and there are plenty of windows.

Ya, I did rename that map from dod_flurry to dod_convoy, but the other mapper beat me to a release ! So, it's back to flurry again !!

@ Defpotec

Its nowhere near the size of dod_pier. I would compare it more to the size of dod_sora. The skybox gives the illusion of a much bigger city.

98% of the destroyed buildings are enterable and maybe 20% of the non-destroyed. Rooftops are not accessible in this one. But, there are plenty of little hideyholes and destroyed buildings that should provide plenty of z-action. It will be action filled with 32 ppl, for sure.

I haven't played RO. So any resemblance is purely coincidental.

Looks like pictures I saw of the battle for Koln germany heavy street fighting with a lot of viscious counter attacks. I have been waiting for a map that looks like it takes place in a large city. I can't wait new_b :D

I like it dark....makes it more realistic. There are already way too may bright maps out there and not enouph dark ones.

Haha !! I'd like to release the map within the next 3 yrs !! :p

Certain strategically placed buildings will be accessible. Every objective will have a minimum of 2 access routes. The destroyed section of the city has loads of nooks and crannies to hide in as well. The map layout is somewhat similar to dod_caen.

Getting great FPS with 32 people is paramount and the layout has been re-designed with optimal performance in mind.

These new pictures show the non-destroyed section of the city, the destroyed half is all there still!! The map is fairly large.

In Pic 2, the grand archway, that's one path that leads to the destroyed half.

I added the new falling snow effect to dod_flurry tonight as well. Looks cool and works great !!! Thanks Valve. Now I can finally finish this puppy!

Trench models courtesy of Kominaa !!! The Flak 88 is useable as well (Thanks to Wickits example map).

As a novice mapper, I can't even begin to wrap my mind around your brushwork. Very pretty stuff, and if it's up to the standard of your old maps, with the new objective mode, I know it'll be a blast (ITS A PUN) to play.

Odd, yes there is a shadow control entity. I didn't notice this problem until you pointed it out, thanks for pointing it out. :D The lightmap scale is set to the default settings on the brushes. I'll have to decrease the lightmap scale on the final build for starters.

I also posted some new pics of dod_flurry w/ increased view distance in my previous post, check them out !

I understand what adjusting the lightmap does, but I struggle to understand the purpose. I've always just them as default.

Sharper more defined, clear shadows. Decreasing LM Scale also can drastically increase map size, so use it very sparingly.

to be abit more clear on the subject, the lightmap scale, directly determins the scale of the "baked" shadows on bsp textures see it as a texture pasted ontop of your bsp textures with shadows on it, so if you increase the size of the lightmap (done through the texture placement menu) your shadows become more sharp and higher res, however besides map size, it increases something more important which is memory. there for you wanna go easy on it and improve it were nesscary.

dynamic lights, are as the name sugests dynamic and calculated on the fly, ingame, nothing prewritten unlike LM's dynamic lights should in most cases not be used in Multiplayer.

No there isn't a thread for dod_flurry yet ! When it gets closer to finished i'll start up a thread for it. It's roughly at the 85% complete stage. I'm gonna focus on and release dod_push first !

Still working on it... It got a lil' bigger than I had originally planned, Basically i'm just working on interiors atm. It'll be worth the wait, I swear !!

The bsp size will be a tad bigger than normal, due to custom materials.

Wow... thats outstanding, ultranew_b.

I've never seen such an extremely high grade of detail combined with just perfectly matching textures.

Those sceneries on the screenshots almost look like an ensemble :)

I'd love to see that one released, too!

I will hopefully be using Sunlit to help me test it, since they have helped with my previous 2 releases. When that is released to the public I'll finish off dod_push which currently stands at 95% complete. So expect 2 more maps from me within a month.

I'll make a wip thread for the snowy map later today, to start promoting it.

dod_flurry_b1, its good, we have added it to the mapcycle, all the people how played said the map is good in all aspects execpt one.

the negative aspect, is that a 80% of the people said that it would be better to put the spawn points nearest the flags, to provide walking a lot.

The next version of any of my 4 already released maps will be final. They've been out long enough now that I'm aware of 99% of the issues.

On a side note, my newest map dod_V2 is very, very close to a public release.

It's a tank escort map ala. dod_flashtank, except it will be escorting a moving allied convoy through a forest and ultimatly blowing up a german V2 rocket camp.
