Models and HL2

Does anyone know if the weapon models that you make in milkshape and what not will be able to be used in HL2?

valve might release something along with hammer for modellers. But no one really knows if HL2 will be as moddable as the original. Well you never know actually.

Valve is not stupid, the only reason people still play hl is because of modding. They are not going make it harder to do with hl2.

They're using Softimage|XSI, you can download the free trial, but there will also be plugins for Milkshape(and maybe Maya), and there's already one for Max.

Didn't they say they would be doing someting this summer so people could get their mods ready for HL2?

wouldnt it be great if the meshes dont slide during decompiling? and if the texture sizes dont get ****ed up? oh man...

They're going to release the SDK in August.

i can't wait to see Dod on HL2 Source engine, i can't even imagine how it could look...

I cant wait to see teh SDK, I am hoping to get a new hl2 mod going, if any modelers are interested :). Something I have wanted to do for a while, but never had the time or skills in C++ (which now I do)

it looks dead secksey. there is a massive 500mb 20min high quality video at fileplanet.

supposedly its even better for modding than half life is.

whre did you hear that klown? i would think it would be harder to maybe stop some of the cheating

cheesemaster....how deep into c++ does modding actually require?

i hope to one day learn enough c++ to possibly fool around with modding. we've only gotten to one dimensional arrays this semester though :( hopefully ill be able to take some more courses later on.

my school discontinued the c++ course:mad: i wish i was only a little older so i could of gone to it :( i really wanted to learn

My experiences with the SDK is that you really need to know how objects are defined (program wise) otherwise you will be lost.

about 8 million people are gonna get a mod going.

not me:D but hl2 will be ****ing awsome

7,999,850 of them will look at the code and what they have to do and give up, plus I am noit planning on doing anything major, just playing around a bit

I wish i could learn some modeling... I'm currently learning Rhino3D. All i can do is design buildings

Ive yet to see the preview.. if i ever do... But If my spies are correct there will be some vehicules and high quality textures/fx. Wich is all dod needs :D

Between me and you, the story behind half life.. Is crap. The only reason everyone has kept using hl was for CS (sucks to say it first but true) DOD, And probably smaller ones like FA, TS, NS..

I think DOD will be awesome on hl2. Can you imagine some Tanks, Bicycles, MAYBE planes, Jeeps. All that, I hope, On HUGE maps.

Well I guess we'll have to wait once again :D

If you put $cliptotextures somewhere in the qc of a model before compiling, the texture sizes do not get f'd up at all. Instead of cropping the texture to the size of the mesh, it makes it use the dimensions of the texture instead.

what I PERSONALLY am waiting for is the inclusion of French *****s in all the great french maps, caen, St. Lo, etc.. Merderet...

Ahhh to spend half the round time inside a nice cozy room with a virtual prostitute on the Source engine, now that's the stuff that dreams are made of.;)

(yes i am a total moron but hey, thats all i ever wanted to be)
ehhe

p.s. do you think the Source engine will allow a currency system like CS does, i.e. 5 francs gets you a &**(^*job, and 15 francs gets you a &%^&^7?

(just joking)
?IF the SOURCE engine allows tanks, and planes, will DOD turn into a BF1942 rip off? or a much more authentic representation of WW2 that was impossible to achieve in the original HL engine?

in conclusion, i am REALLY ONLY looking forward to the truly disgusting gore of bodies torn open by machinegun fire and explosives.

i agree with the 2nd half of robs post... i have always loved dod for the up close action type fight thingys. i really cant explain it but i dont know if its the vehicles in bf1942... but that game doesnt have it. most of the time you will only fight 1 on 1 in that game opposed to dod where its very common to fight a whole team. its just the up close action of dod that most games cant really capture that i really like. the vehicles may ruin it :( .

i am still really looking foward to DoD on hl2 tho. damn i cant even imagine...

Five buttsmacks? What do you play DoD once a month? I got 5 buttsmacks in one minute on kraftstoff. And then 3 more mg34 kills after that, at which point I was noobed in the head by a kar.

Anyways, Valve is releasing the SDK in advance so we can make our crap, and it will probably involve some information on the modelling aspect of HL2. If that helps you anymore than being told the program by that one guy.

DoD wouldn't be a Battlefield 1942 ripoff. Day of Defeat was around before the Refractor 2 engine was even made for BF1942. And anyways, i highly doubt that HL2 will support tanks and whatnot worth a damn.
The reason that tanks and planes and halftracks etc. work so well in BF42 is the fact that the engine is made to render vast environments. Usually there aren't 494393598 vehicles in one spot on BF42, that's why your ping is only 19 on the internet. It does less work than the Source and Quake 2 engines have to, which render an ungodly amount of everything all at the same time in the same compact space. So yea.

GamingNEXT - Finally, how user friendly is this engine and will modders be able to create unique environments and maps that made the first Half-Life last so long?
Gabe Newell - We learned a lot through our experiences with TFC, Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, and so on. This engine is much more MOD'able (if that's a word) than Half-Life 1 was, and the tool set has been improved a lot. We'll also be releasing a bunch of material to help MOD teams get their existing work up and running on the new engine as a starting point.
