Hi,
I started work on a map ages ago, and decided to model a stug tank for it. Anywhere here's the stug, almost done. I did the model and the texture was done by a friend o mine.

What do you guys think?

Nice. Whats the polycount and have you made LOD models too?

Oh and does your friend want to skin my PAK 40? :D

Polycount is around 7300 tris, and a large portion of that is in the wheels as you can imagine. Haven't done any lod models yet, I soon.

Re texturing your Pak40, heh, I'll ask :)

I could recognise that ******* of a tank from a mile away. WWII Online makes the III G out to be a nearly-indestructable behemoth. And it doesn't even have the side plate.

I know you haven't finish it yet (btw it looks wicked) but the texturing needs to be more detailed, as in more dirt and grime and colour variation :) because right now it's too 'soft' in colour variation. Other than that it looks great.

Can i ask, does LOD mean low detail or something? So low polycount models for low-end PCs?

And what's the recommended polycount for hi/low detail models?

keep up the good work!

LOD means Level of detail.
Different games use it in different ways, either by switching to lower poly models when you're further away from the object, or just using a lower poly version when you set your game game to run with low settings, or some combo of the 2.

And yup work in progress, still needs more grime/rust/dirt/bolts, and nazi logo's etc.

The other tanks in DOD:S are around 6k tris each so I aimed for somewhere around there, the LOD meshes are usually about half and quarter of that.

Excellent work sir.

If you dont mind, you really should share bits n' pieces of that for other modelers.

That tank barrel and the track assembly could be used for many other models. Consider posting those for hack jobs :)

Nice stuff. If you get this done soon might be able to put it into my new project. Your tank can be the first to be in a follow the tank map :-)

heh sounds cool.

Currently the main thing holding me back from getting it done is:

"ERROR: Can't load MaterialSystem.dll"

when running studiomdl.exe to convert it, I've googled without much luck. anyone got any ideas?

Seeing all these tanks in source makes me want to drive them.
