Can someone make a slight map change? Please?

Ok, I'm hoping this wouldn't be too hard for a mapping guru here, and I might be able to arrange some kind of reward:

This is for the map dod_seg3, running on the retail version of DoD 1.3 (is that Hammer?). This is an awesome map, but crashes due to one flaw when played on 1.3.

In the big church there is a hole in the floor that gives access to the tower. A freestanding (no wall behind it) ladder goes down into the hole. Going down seems to work fine.

The problem is that if you try to go up the ladder, you seem to go through the ladder, instead of directly up it. This sends the server's CPU into 100% usage and locks it up so that you have to kill the hlds.exe process and restart the game.

I'm guessing that the problem has to do with the ladder not being "solid" enough? I wonder if it would resolve this problem if a narrow wall were added just behind the ladder? Another option would be to remove the ladder and add some crates that would create a sort of jumping step system.

Can this be done? I can send the bsp file to anyone who wants to try. Thanks!

Your best bet is to PM Kamikazi! as he's the map's creator. However, I'm not sure how willing he would be to update a map he finished five years ago. Such is the inherent risk involved with playing the beta maps ;) Some things are broken, likely to never be fixed.

While we're on the subject... We need Seg3 for DoD:S NOW, Kami ;) Oh... and make a port of Schwetz while you're at it :p

Yea...that crash condition works for other maps as well. The only way to fix it is to remove the ladder entity. I doubt Kami or anyone else is going to work on a old 1.3 map. It's kind of a lost deal now (for better or worse).

Is it possible to remove the ladder entity from the bsp by editing the text file using Ripent? That's how I moved some objects.

Yes...but make sure that by doing so you don't screw up gameplay or whatnot. I can't remember where that ladder was but if it's important to have it there and removing it messes up balance you have to ask yourself if removing it would be worth it.

The ladder is in the hole in the floor towards the front of the Church. It gives access to the "basement", but the only thing down there is another ladder to the top of the church tower. However, you need a buddy to get to it to go up, as it doesn't reach all the way down. The real purpose of it was so that the Allies, coming from the left hand route through the sewers would have an extra route into the church, rather than through the front door: Up the ladder outside the church on the tower, to the top, down the inside ladder to the basement, then up the ladder through the hole in the floor. It would be a shame to lose it, but it might be the only option.

Is it possible I could edit the details about the ladder, or add a wall behind it, just by using Ripent? If not, how do I remove the ladder using Ripent? Can I add stacked boxes using Ripent?

Thanks!

Really only entity work can be done using Ripent, You COULD get something like Entmod and move some boxes there from another part of the map and save it. I remember running Entmod on my old 1.3 server (although it wasnt exactly the stablest plugin >_<)

Thats really the only way I can think of doing it.

*EDIT* I just remembered there being a plugin for AMXX that was a bit more stable than Entmod.. http://www.amxmodx.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=30459

Hope that helps!
