Sandbags and MG Nests in DOD:S

Quick question. It might sound quite stupid but how the hell do you do MG Nests in Source? dod_trigger_sandbag doesn't exit...

Do you mean positions an MG can set up?

YOU dont... the game does it for you, you think the mappers would be crazy enough to make MG spots on absolutely every inch of ground? your crazy! :-P

but really, you dont need to do anything for it in source.

Yes, I mean a place where MG's can setup.

I have a problem in one of my maps (pillbox) where you can only be crouched in an area, and there is an opening and MG's cannot setup on the opening's ledge.

As PanFrie said, its all done automatically, hell you can even set up on prop_physic barrels, and when they get shot out of the way, your MG undeployes.

So there's no need for the old entity anymore...

So I'm stuck with my problem? :S

On the Source map dod_flash, at the Axis 2nd flag (where the burning tank is), there is a prop_phys_multiplayer object, it is a barrel. This barrel is dynamic - it can move anywhere, and have any kind of height depending on where it is and how it's resting. So in relation to you, it could be just as high as your ankles, or up to you knees, your thighs, your waist, maybe even your chest.

This barrel you can move by either hitting it with your gun, letting a nade explode near it, or just by hitting it with your fists (that is if you're an Assault class).

You move this barrel onto it's side, and roll it until it's up against the wall, way past the 2nd flag (say you're Axis).

Now, if you're a Machine Gunner, you can actually Set up on the barrel. Just crouch, and set up (as long as the barrel isn't rolling still). If you somehow got this barrel upright, you can set up on that. Even if it was somehow sitting on it's own rims, you can set up on the barrel.

If there's any kind of surface that is lower than the height of your player's chest, then they can set up on it. Or if the player is crouching, then the height of the surface can be no lower than ~6" off the ground.

I do believe that once, I even set up on a dead body (before it disappeared).

See, this is why dod_trigger_sandbag doesn't work. It's because it's obsolete, useless, history.

Hope that helps! :)

if there is a problem and you cant set up an mg, try changing the geometry a bit, either the ledge is to high or to low for the spot you are having problems with

Would be nice to know the exact units so we can make the MGs deploy correctly.

I guess it's one of those times to make a test map :kitty:

The area must have a certain clearance height, make the gap bigger

Dash...make your edge 42 units high (more or less) and then make sure you have room for the player to stand...you cannot deploy the MG if you are crouched because the ceiling prohibits you from standing.
