It's been about 6 weeks since I first began mapping and a lot of that time was exhausted on simply learning how to use the tools and the general tricks of the trade (and annoying you all for help every now and then :) ). However, this map came into conception about 2 and a half weeks ago when I finally felt I had enough experience to truly build something that represented my truest vision possible. Of course, I certainly didn't have enough experience as I've had to learn much along the way of making this map, but that in itself is a good thing anyway.
I would say the physical geometry is more or less completed, leaving me with ironing out the rough edges and general detail work to further "sourcify" the map before it's time for beta. I'm also interested in seeing what this new update holds for the mapping community in terms of new content (such as, say, a breakable code that I could most certainly implement).
Anyway, the map itself is a bit of a risk in terms of construction and overall layout (and one I'm hoping will pay off). It defintely leans more toward rifles (not as much as Omaha or a variety of other maps that tend to boil down to snipe fests), however it doesn't completely shunt out the close range fighters as there are plenty of routes made specifically for them. My biggest fear is that of poor performance, as an open map like this can potentially be an FPS killer, however, one thing I find comforting is that the physical geometry is less dense than that of an official map, and while that may mean higher visibility (which I've made many efforts to control in places), it also means less things for the engine to draw at a time. Only a full compilation will reveal how this turns out. If this gamble doesn't go in my favor, the experience is still worth more than anything, because I plan on mapping for quite some time.
EDIT: I just switched them from links to images... figured it's more convenient this way.
