The blocks that make up the walls of the level have the texture of:
toolsskybox

This seems to make light sky, so it doesnt matter what light i put in the game, everything still looks very sunny.

i am not at the moment using a sky box to display anything.

its odd that when hosting locally it looks fine and dark, but on the server its just so light

Take a look at how I did the skybox in dod_pier_b2 (decompile it). I had to enclose the "inner" skybox with a hollowed out func_brush, textured with a color that matched my fog color. It was the only way I could hide the bright hl2 night time sky.

Hope this helps !

ULTRANEW_B! CHECK YOUR PMs AND YOUR EMAIL!!!!!!!!

Did you set the skybox texture in the Properties menu? (I'm not talking about the toolskybox texture itself)

Yeah the toolsskybox is what everyone uses to texture the actual brushes. But what jack means is what texture are you using in the map properties. In Hammer click on Map and go down to Map Properties and then click on SkyBox Texture Name. It will probably say sky_day01_01, you need to change it to a DOD HDR texture.

Here they all are:

right down the bottom are the DOD ones.

thanks for the info on making it darker, the map is much nicer now.

the next issue im stuck with is making the sound of an aircraft loop.
i got the sound to play once but it never plays again.
is there a loop command to get them to keep playing.

so far the map works like this:
allies spawn i nthe aircraft, in a line with 1 guy stood in the door.
the sound of the aircraft is playing, and anti aircraft shells are going off everywhere around you, just before you can move, a shell goes off just outside the door and takes down the guy in lead stick.
you then all pile out of the door, into thick cloud cover.
the cloud breaks and you hit the floor.
there is a flag infront of you (with a ridge beyond that), and a barn to your left (2 story for sniping/mging).
you edge over the ridge and see a bunker complex.
sandbagged defenses on your left of the bunker, a large rectangular opening for mgs, and a small murder hole on your right.

between you and the bunker is a open field with barbed wire fences.

if you look up at the clouds you see white flashes of the AA fire, and if you make it into the bunker you have to capture the radio room.
its very dark in that field so the lack of cover is balanced by the fact that the germans have a hard time seeing the enemy as they attack.

the map has 3 flags.
1 under the aircraft
1 in the axis bunker left side
1 in the middle of the bunker (radio room, axis cant recap this flag)

In the flags tab of the sounds properties there should be soemthing along the lines of 'is NOT looped'. Make sure this isn't checked.

*btw sounds great, if you can pull it off it'l be a lot of fun.

at the moment its in the final stages, its a small map but its fun.
i looked at that already and its not ticked.
i have a sound of a radio in the game and that loops fine.

what i was thinking is...can you set an output in the sound itself to say, on stopsound, play sound?
or anything simple like that, or any control that says play this sound every 15 seconds?
