Garand and Carbine

Heres a little tweak I did to Sproily's texture for Short.Fuses' Garand, I havn't done anything with the newest model, but this is the skin for it as well as my own M1 Carbine skin. I hope you like, because alot of people seem to love this little thing as much as I do.
They might not look like alot in the pics, but atleast try them out ingame, its a big difference.

M1 Garand:

Original Texture: Sproily
New Texture/Normal Map: The Liuetenant

M1 Carbine:
Model: VALVe
Texture/Normal: The Liuetenant

The Garand looks nice, but the carbine looks a bit wierd.

Hey FBO, im no modeller or skinner, but i was wondering if you could put a static sling on the m1 carbine. It would look sooo awesome if you could do that. But i am not sure how much work that would take.

Im not good enough to model for source, but I think someone has/is working on a sling for the carbine, correct me if I am wrong.

What do you all think?

I am about to upload the Carbine with darker metal, I agree it looks better that way, just wanted to let everyone know incase people were still interested

I made the metal darker, and lightened the saturation on the wood.

Thanks, I have fixed the VMT so the normal map will actually be visible now, and I worked the metal a bit more, so I'll upload all the files for the M1 again.

I've done some normal maps for most all the guns, but I have yet to ask the original skinners permission to release, but if anyone wants a normal map for something I'm willing

I took a look at the newest version in-game and to me, the metal is too dark.

Thanks for the reference pics, but even among them the metal varies alot, some of them look too nice to be the original metal or atleast didn't enter service. But I agree it was too dark, so heres a few pics of it, and it should look better now (slightly lighter)

I guess I'll tweak it a few more times before re-releasing it, so look forward to alot of WIP pics

I tell you what. I have already tried reskinning the carbine, and I have had the WORST luck getting the wood to look right! I notice you are having the exact same problem. I think the model stretches the skin at the back of the stock.

Yeah, I've been trying to skin the carbine, and the wood near the grip always comes out looking like crap. I've tried a bunch of different scaling methods but no luck so far.

wood looks really good. only 1 problem, ur normals made the wood look all rugged and rough when actually it was very smooth and had a finish on it to reflect light. all u need to do is put a solid color in ur normal where the wood is and there wont be any problem with the ruggedness

I am aware of that, but I personally like the fact that I can see the grain in the normal, but I'll make another for everyone that prefers the way it should be

Where are you getting them? Are you talking about the skin itself cause I posted some pics of it with the file (scroll down if you didnt already), they shouldnt be on private viewing :/
