Yes, this was done with his permission.

It is rare I will directly copy someone else's skin; this skin was of such quality that I knew I could not do better :) I simply made some changes that affect the way the model/skin is rendered.

I did no actual skinning here. I added an alpha channel, re-adjusted and balanced the color scheme and changed the VMT file. Basically I did away with using the normal map for specular (reflective) channel and also toned down many highlights on the original skin, opting instead to mask all highlights in the Alpha channel and use
THAT instead to bring out the highlights. It's a much more realistic effect that all of us "old time" skinners still have trouble getting used to since since a specular channel was not available to us in the past we always had to draw highlight overemphasized.

*EDIT*
I forgot to mention that I left it at 2048x2048 because it has ironsights, but I did also include a standard res 1024x1024

The wood grain looks amazingly real, and the color is perfect. Very good job.

Is it just me or does the rifle grenade model look like it has the smaller peep sight?

It's you ;). I did nothing to that pic; it is even a 1:1 scale from the screenshot!

Look'n good, I never really liked the original's dark-brown wood + dark-blueish wood scheme. A lighter wood tone is a nice touch.

My only gripe is the default model's hideous curviture on the top wood peice infront of the receiver. :o

Looks like the saving private ryan rifle all dirty and stuff(in a good way of course) You should do the same thing with the thompson to make it dirty and worn.

Would you consider a k98k in the near future?
