based on those pictures the map will basically be an open field with trenches around 105mm canons

the problem with historically accurate maps is they that the actual battles to capture certain areas
ie: a field
took hours or days or sometimes months and most dod:s servers have a 30 minute maptime.
sometimes, the only way the allies got through was by sheer numbers, in terms of men and / or equipment. :dog:
"reality" maps don't always make for good on-line gameplay.

Ah but this scenario is a little different:
This is a battle made famous by Band of Brothers.
I don't think it actually lasted very long (it was celebrated as an almost perfect execution of a small unit attack and is still used as an example during troop training, if Stephen Ambrose' book is to be believed).
And it's already been done in a game - it was in the first Call Of Duty, where it worked very well in SP mode at least. I can't remember if there was an MP version too.

there was a mp version of brecourt for COD .... and it was one of the competitive maps .... but it didnt just focus on the field ... i believe it used the mansion as well.
Alot of people complain about it in the competitive world of cod .... but who knows ... dods is a different game and it might work. but i would stay away for REALISTIC and HISTORICALLy accurate maps .... like others have stated simply because it will make it more fun

The biggest problem with creating this with attention to accuracy is that it'll turn into a camp/snipe fest. The big open field along with the trenches will spell disaster for gameplay. If you took some liberties and condensed it, put in extra hedges, or changed the layout then I can see it working.

I saw another picture, a road ran from behind the guns about 25 yrds away, the allies move across the road and to the guns and the germans spawn by the guns.

If you have played COD on pub servers, you know that half of those "open feild" maps they use turn into big sniper-fests.
This map could be done, but not completely historically accurate.

Well, the map also could have a map limit for sniper's allowing 1 per team which would reduce the "snipefest" somewhat.

Ya but COD isn't the real Brecourt map, Alot of shrubbery and grass about 3ft high could conceal someone crawling.

I say keep it close to the fast and urgent feel of the BoB episode, which sounds like that is what inspired you in the first place. That's real enough. Go with what inspires you.
I'm all for it, do it Lt. Stephenson!! I'm not sure the cooings and approval of the "competitive community" is something you really want to hear in your ear at night.

Band of Brothers ep didn't enspire me, I was thinking last night, and got to thinking about a historical map, so I looked up Brecourt Manor.

Can't you guys just put aside all the gameplay problems in creating this historically accurate map and just get to it?

We already run dod_brecourt on our server. It's not a very detailed map, but it's a nice change of pace from the larger, city maps.

ya, I saw that map, but it reminds of the Call of Duty, its kinda small and compact then then real thing, and doesnt look anything like it, I didn't see one 88mm in the screenshots, just a bunch of tanks.

This would work on our QOR server because we allow only 1 sniper and 2 mgs on our server that fits 32 people

this could actually be quite a cool map and not too tricky to make:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brecourt_Manor_Assault
the trench system / gun emplacements and mg nests are the key factors.
if it was to be made in a realistic style, the mapper would need more pics Lt. Stephenson :dog:

too bad you can't have certain classes spawn in certain locations. Like say your an MG and when you respawn for the first round you start right where you can cover the advancing alllies with the machine gun. but only at the beginning of the round.

If you want to make a map based on a real place during world war two, go visit www.resistanceandliberation.com and make custom maps.
We're doing maps based on places the 82nd and 101st fought in and we're getting them as close to possible as we can to how they looked.
