Have you guys seen this already?

http://www.bgmod.com/gallery/index.php?spgmGal=work_in_progress

Beautifully arranged foliage, which creates the atmosphere of a forest area, but it seems the gameplay could be as fluid in this forest as in any other type of terrain.
Can't help but what came into my mind when Isaw the screens wa: "Oh, God we need something like this for DoD:Source." :-)

iirc those tree models arn't allowed to leave the BG community.

Personal opinion here, but I think it looks pretty bad.. The textures are fat, the colors are nowhere near realistic, Imho, this looks like it could've been done on the half-life engine, if it wasn't for the size of the map.

Overall, it doesn't appeal to me.. with better models and textures, this would look a lot better.

It is on the HL1 engine.

Source engine, BG is in the process of porting over..

Happy new year and happy new version of Battle Grounds 2 for the source engine.

It's quite nice but I don't think you can get much more foilage in Source onscreen without something slowing down too much.

I have to agree with Bolteh, the colors are not very realistic on some of those trees. I mentioned this to Tomdon on the HL2World forums as well.

My upcoming winter forest map, dod_convoy, has a lot of trees. So, It's possible to have loads of trees in conjunction with fog and a low cull distance.

Should have a public beta in around a week. Pics sooner.

i dont think the foliage makes too much of an impact on maps... i took the props_foliage/hedge_128.mdl and made a big tunnel out of them, doubling over eachother so that it was thick, theres about 75 models visible all at once ATM, because i dont have the walls cuttiong off visibility on some part, and it makes a really small impact on the FPS, looking away from them i get 70-80 FPS (GeForce 6600 GT), and when i look at them / go through the tunnel, i get MAYBE 5 - 8 FPS drop.

I don't think its the models that slow it down, its the transparency on the foilage that kills it.

After the first two screenshots it doesn't look that different from other maps in terms of foliage usage.

That's because the last four screenshots dont feature the dense jungle parts the map.

Download it and see for yourself. It really is amazing.

Is this what some of us may have known as dod_flurry?

If so oooooo I cant wait, sora is one of those maps (along with anvil, salerno and dijon) that Valve should write you all big fat dirty cheques for right now.

I saw some screens of this when we were discussing not calling it flurry and it looked just awsome.

Server available for testing whenever you like
