Iron Cross / Purple Heart ...HUD?

EDIT 11 June 2006... The old post is gone, here is the latest in case you found this in a search....

The other change is the HUD now has it's own Installer / Uninstaller, there are quite a few custom .VTF files and a uninstaller makes it easy to remove in case of a change to a new/other HUD.

It has a optional components section where you can tick / untick items. Very easy to install....

Well i wont be using it then. I dont fancy earning too many Purple Hearts.

Only kidding mate :)

ITs awesome, gotta love the idea. Kinda reminds me of the Wolfenstein 3D Hud where as you got hit your face started to bleed than when you died it became a skull.

Top Class Stuff Mate.

Haha that little turtle. I was inspired by the massive tortise Homer had to follow in one episode of the Simpsons when I created the orignal.

Need more Turtle!

More Progress, just testing left and move a couple of things around.

US HUD with win panels (http://www.dodbits.com/tutorials/Commandmenu/unfinished/US_win_medals.jpg)

German HUD with win panels plus low health inset (http://www.dodbits.com/tutorials/Commandmenu/unfinished/German_win_medals.jpg)

The german one now has a wound badge instead of the Iron Cross.

Medals for capping out added to win panels... both sides. I hope they are right :)

Be done in about two days.

Just for you here is a untested version.... no warranty.

*LINK REMOVED FOR NOW* too buggy just now :)

I changed a couple of small things before I zipped... let me know of any faults please :)

I have added another folder for small fonts just in case people don't like standard dod:s fonts.

It has to install AFTER the main HUD install.

Cheers

I am loving this new hud

And I am making a suggestion I hope will be taken -

MG42 barrel overheat status; make it a thermometer like this old custom DOD sprite from 2002

I still want to make an old style hud... but this one and some CS:S stuff got in the way a bit.

My little Turtle font doesn't do the original justice... must try harder next time :D

I like the MG idea... but making it work may be a bit of a challenge.

Thanks for the replies guys ;)

Not really a bug, just something cosmetic...

Could the underscores be replaced with spaces?

Random smilie: tinfoil

Another suggesttion:

As long as you are at it, could you darker the font on the scoreboard or at least change the green color of the allied font? It is REALLY hard to see in certain cercumstances

INsane_dod
02-21-2006, 12:18 AM
Hehe... I found one too.

The MG heat bar is wrong... in fact the whole file is missing :p

Naming of the Medal of Honor was a bad cut and paste from the file name of the VTF file. It will be fixed.... thank you.

I will have a play around with the allies font in the ClientScheme.res file, or try to adjust that color only on the scoreboard.

Thanks for testing it guys :)

Can't change the shade of green in the allied font, it seems the games .dll is controlling that.

I can adjust the scoreboard background transparency and that's about it.

If you are using a small font you may have trouble in some places, I use standard.

Sorry :)

Just playing with fonts at the moment... Microsoft Sans Serif font seems the best when downsizing fonts.

Will release soon with choices of fonts small and standard.

Sorry guys :)
I know I am a week late but I did find two more things.

I have found a way around the small font problem, it's not perfect but it will change the color of the green.

I have also redone some small player ID icons and Object icons.

I will release another 'beta" today. I think I have gone as far as I can go for now :D

Packing it up and testing it now.

Ok, 2nd one is ready... let me know what you think.

I had a bash at making the small fonts a bit brighter by using the "additive" function in the ClientScheme.res file.

It adds a bit of white to fonts.

The install is in four parts...

1. The hud with my normal fonts...
Standard fonts (http://www.dodbits.com/dodbitsdownloads/Medal_HUD/Normal_fonts.jpg)

2. A add-on with small fonts...
Axis win (http://www.dodbits.com/dodbitsdownloads/Medal_HUD/Axis_Wins2.jpg)
US win (http://www.dodbits.com/dodbitsdownloads/Medal_HUD/US_Wins.jpg)
Axis at Anzio Plaza (http://www.dodbits.com/dodbitsdownloads/Medal_HUD/Axis_at_plaza.jpg)
Scoreboard (http://www.dodbits.com/dodbitsdownloads/Medal_HUD/Scoreboard.jpg)
More hud icons (http://www.dodbits.com/dodbitsdownloads/Medal_HUD/Hud_icons.jpg)
Neutral flag icons (http://www.dodbits.com/dodbitsdownloads/Medal_HUD/neutral_flags.jpg)

3. Rabid Whale's Historical flags (I love em') to match the hud stuff.

4. I also slipped in a one dot crosshair I made a while back.

DOWNLOAD (http://www.dodbits.com/dodbitsdownloads/Medal_HUD/INsanes_Medal_of_Honor_HUD.zip)

The hud changes minimap icons, objective icons, player ID icons, winpanels, fonts, health bar, mg bar, fireselect, death messages.

Let me know if you need something changed :)

Wile E Coyote
02-26-2006, 03:57 AM
Nice work.

As you can see, I didn't use the icons. They are cool looking, but a little too "busy" for me ;) . Especially the captures icons at top with that flag background; when shrunk down I can barely tell a super-imposed bridge from Ghandi"s underwear.

Other than that: I can now see the allied scores on the scoreboard. Finally. That alone made this worth it.

I also see the problem with changing the MG heat status. Never realized it's part of the TTF font, but I know from previous experience you can't modify that TTF font (I tried) so I guess we are stuck with those stamina and heat status bars like they are :(

Unfortunately the use of the unchangeable font also kills any hope of a retro early DOD hud :(

INsane_dod
02-26-2006, 04:12 AM
You can change the dodlogo.ttf, also you should be able to add others. Just by adding its name at the bottom of the ClientSheme.res file :)

You just make the .ttf file "read only" and it sticks... that's where the Turtle is :D

Old style HUD is hard, but still may be possible.

Only worry I have with doing all this is update time... you never know what's next and the custom files get in the way sometimes.... if you reinstall after an update. The read only file may stick there.

I am still looking at fonts too, will write up a tutorial when I am finished. There is lots of stuff yet just in that one file. (ClientScheme.res)

Cheers

INsane.

I AM SOOO in love with this HUD!!!! (no offense Valve!)

It makes me feel all tingly and special the map end!!

One question though - what lines to I remove to take away the NAMES on the minimap?? I use the minimap in small mode, and the names make it impossible to see anything. I just want icons!

INsane_dod
03-25-2006, 08:08 PM
Minimap...

I didn't touch the minimap...well not yet anyway :p

Do you have...

overview_names 0 ...set to "1"?

It shows player's names in map overview.

EDIT: BTW ole' mate I did do that installer Tutorial ... here. (http://www.dodbits.com/tutorials/NSIS/DoDs_NSIS_Installer.html)

God it's long though, but at least it is step by step :D

I love the win panels of this hud. The medal of honor, knight's cross type of things that adds a little extra to the game.

But, I've gotten' so used to bazooka's hud that I can't get used to this! Plus, bazooka's hud is very reminicent of the classic dod hud with the ammo in the bottom right corner.

Now if anyone could please make me this hud I would be so grateful. Or just point me in the right direction where I could just fuse these two huds together.
