looks great i really like the scratches

but i feel the term realistic should be removed because the real mp40's had bakelite (the part that looks like wood) not metal, the metal was added to them as aftermarket after the war

I dont care when it was addes i didnt specificly say relistic WWII mp40. And the thing that looks like wood ive never seen that in no photos or movies or games besides dods so form that there was metal on the mp40s they used in WWII.

Most MP40s were mainly stamped metal parts....

Look at this -

If it isn't realistic and you label it realistic, Wile is gonna jump on you =).

Allright, you've all heard 'ol Wile carry on about this before, but he went and had to add the word REALISTIC to it so......

The real MP40 had BAKELITE grips. Period. End of discussion. They had a reddish-brown hue quite often, or reddish-black. They were NEVER metal. They were NEVER wood. AFTERMARKET replacement grips are made of aluminum, not originals. The grips depicted in the default model are NOT wood. They are the correct BAKELITE. And in that sense the most realistic of all skins so far.

However the skin itself does look good :D

EDIT:

ROFL as I was typing, deceiver beat me to the punch. Dang, I am predictable.

As Wile said, it's Bakelite.

Hey there

It appears as if you have 'inverted' your bump. All the scratches are actually going out instead of in. Pay attention to the highlights on your screenshot and you will see (in the left pic) that indeed all the dents are lumps.
It looks a bit like an old ironcast canon:

I would suggest you 'relax' your skin here and there to make the details really get the attention it deserves. Right now it all kind of melts together and the eye don't know where to start.

Cheers

Then don't go advertising you're mod as realistic when it's not. Metal side and grips, a million scratches, and an overdone normal map that makes the metal look like cottage cheese. None of those things are realistic and people are going to call you out on it. The side and grips were bakelite, the gun probably would barely be scratched, and the metal is smooth.

For the record I still think it looks good, but you have to be able to take a bit of criticism if you're going to post your work.

If you cant take peoples opinions dont release stuff.

Its Pretty Simple.

Ok...then show proof. If there were other types and you have documented proof then by all means share it. If you don't have proof then your truth is no less *right* than someone who states they all had bakelite. Oh...and drop the attitude please. Learn to disagree w/o being disagreeable.

Post edit: Looks like he deleted his post...it was a fairly tough rant w/"tude"

I disagree with you 100% and you are saying something that ISN'T TOTALLY TRUE.

I have been a curio and relic gun collector and WWII enthusiast for YEARS and I have fired original manufacture unaltered MP40s on range.

SOME EARLY MP40s have the brown bakelite sides and grip as depicted in the original DOD:S textures.

However most collectors know these are the rare EXCEPTION AND NOT THE RULE.

Later MP40s had the bakelite sides colored to match the same tone as the rest of the weapon, and only the grip retained a brownish color; the color being a VERY DARK, almost blackish brown.

This is common on every MP40 I have ever seen with my own eyes.

MP40s like the one you show in the photo are the EXCEPTION NOT THE RULE.

DOD:S's unaltered textures are cartoonish and unrealistic, and I would guess that in the Western European front of 1944-45 most MP40s did NOT look like that, though it's just a guess.

EDIT:

I deleted my original post because it wasn't exactly what I wanted to say, and if I have an attitude it's because I don't like people passing off false information like they are some kind of authority.

I can BACK UP my claims because I've been collecting weapons for YEARS.

Anyone who would claim the DOD:S MP40 or the one in the photo is the norm and that all or even most true MP40s looked like that just doesn't know what he's talking about, PERIOD.
