Getting lanterns to look right

I'm working on making dod_sturm for source and having problems getting the lanterns to look right.

I have set the light level quite low to give the map a kinda "dawn raid" ambience so I have used street light and lantern models with light entities inside.

The problem is I cant get the lantern itself to actually look lit, I don't have a screenshot to hand but noticed this guy is having the same problem.

Is the only way to set four spot lights around it and point them directly at the glass sides of the lamp or am I missing something here?

Also is there a rule of thumb as to which models are static/dynamic/physics etc.

I have some rubble models which show up fine but I get an error in the console about VPHYSICS, if I set the model to physics or physics_multiplayer I lose the error but the model doesnt show up, having the same problem with the "bramble" bush model.

First the model should have a "lit" skin. Then just use an env_sprite entity right on the lantern with a glow sprite, and the light entity next to it (not within the model)

OK i'll give it a try thanks, by "lit" skin do you mean textured to look alight?

yeah there should be a version of that model with a yellow tinted glass. Either it's a different skin or a different model, can't remember which

Search for 'light' in the model browser, there are on and off versions of some lights in there. You are going to have to make a new skin for the model I think. I had this problem too. Never got far enough to really fix it though..

even if it doesnt have a "on" skin, the sprite glow should work fine.
