Moved flag status indicators out of the way a bit
Moved weapon selection panel to the side for hud_fastswitch 0 users

Sorry it took so long. :D I think it looks a lot better though personally, after putting some extra time in. Please let me know if there are any bugs or if I goofed something up.

Changes from default:

Decreased height of death message backgrounds
Moved flag status indicators out of the way a bit
Moved weapon selection panel to the side for hud_fastswitch 0 users
Adjusted death and cap notice transparency so that your kills are more noticeable.
Ammo counter moved to right side of screen
Stamina and MG overheat bars shortened.
Current weapon HUD element removed
End-round stats panel's size decreased and moved down
Scoreboard darkened
Some capture panel elements removed
Healthbar enlarged a bit
Various other dimensional and layout changes

Oh nice :)

Must give it a run, I actually like the wide heath status concept it may help to catch your eye in case of very high damage.

Many times I have jumped out of the window above the first allied flag on Ava'... instead of capping the last ... I crap my last.

Most embarrassing :(

Nice job on the hud, there aren't really that many custom huds available at the moment so its good to see at least one starting to surface!

mind if i make a few mods to it so i can use it? cause theres only a few things in it i would like to use (the moved end round thing, and the darker scoreboard)

Yea, go ahead! But I'll warn you, the Source files are really messy because I didn't know what I was doing when I started messing around with the files back in October. Now I know, but I don't want to go back and make things cleaner and more consistent. Yep, I'm lazy. And if all you want is to have the darker scoreboard and moved end round stats panel, only use the following files --

scripts/HudLayout.res
resource/ClientScheme.res
resource/ui/Win_Allies.res
resource/ui/Win_Axis.res

FYI, in HudLayout.res, there are two entries that control the location of the WinPanels (one for Axis, one for Allies). So that's where to go if you don't like the position.

Great HUD!

A couple requests and, maybe, if you don't want to include these in your base HUD, you could just tell me how to do it.

1. Death Messages
*I'd like the font/size to be a bit smaller
*can I remove the color border on kills? It would nice to have it for flag caps, but not kills to make flag caps stand out more.

2. Flag icons
*I saw somewhere (was it dod:c?) where someone had made them smaller and "smooshed them closer together and the one you were on (you know how the icon gets larger) didn't push the others aside, it just overlayed them.

3. Chat dialogue
*smaller font size

PS I like the font Tahoma, where/how can I change everything to Tahoma?

Thanks INsane! But for Shane's sake, lemme clarify a couple things

@Shane

1. Changing the font is easy, but you can't have only flags show up w/ a background. You can have only your kills and caps show up with a background. Or you could have only other's kills and caps show up with a background. But not strictly flags, unfortunately. I have dabbled in trying to change the size of the notices w/o results, though I haven't delved into it very much.

2. Easy. Check INsane's tuts.

3. Also easy.

PS. You can change any text's font in ClientScheme.res. Tahoma wasn't looking too good as a chat font / kill notice font, though, I'll warn you. You might have to experiment with turning off the dropshadow and changing the weight of the font to get good results

I'll leave those up to you -- shouldn't be too hard. :)

@_MB_

Easy fix there -- just type "net_graphpos 1" in console. Moves it to the middle. Now the win panel gets covered up, but that's not as big a deal. I have a bind that toggles the graph on/off so it doesn't matter much to me. If you don't like that it covers the win panel up you can mess around with net_graphheight, which changes the vertical position of the net_graph.

@Gunny

Unfortunately, I'm not having any luck moving the death notices. You can't specify a vertical position, unfortunately, and that sort of limits the options...

I've done a little bit of work since the initial post. Redid the stats panel from scratch. Looks about the same, but the positioning is better (mathematically in laid out, rather than eyeballed). Working on a color scheme, either a army green one, a gritty brown, or a drab grey theme. Probably all of them eventually. Looking at tuning up a couple things for better visibility (like kill notices). I'm all about making things easy to see!

Also, trying to give the HUD some modularity, so you can disable any features that you don't want, with a minimal amount of work on your part. (Basically this means adding a couple extra files to the download, which you can substitute in depending on which features you want).

Is it possible to make the player logo be a meter of health? Like it would be filled with green liquid and it spills out as you lose HP?

I believe that would be possible if you created the graphic with alpha transparency. Then the health bar could then sit behind the graphic. Only issue is that the health bar is square, so you'd have to make the picture cover up the edges properly. I don't think the image itself could define the border of the health bar, but I could be wrong.

@shane..i guess? the death notice font can be changed in the clientscheme.res under ChatFont. iirc, it affects chat text, too, hence, the name, but when i change that my death notices change too.

Hm, I don't know what you mean. If you're talking about the current weapon image that's on the default HUD, I've removed it, except for the knife. Took a bit of "hacking" to do that actually. Is that what you are talking about?

Ah <3<3<3<3, I forgot to mention that this HUD is not compatible w/ hud_fastswitch 0. I kept forgetting to add that to the original post. Thanks for reminding me and sorry about that.

I think most people don't have hud_fastswitch set to 0, and I don't, so it totally slipped by me for a while. It has to do with the way I disabled the current weapon HUD element except for the knife. It is something that I'll look into fixing though. Likely that it's not possible though.

Temp fix would be to use hud_fastswitch 1. You'd probably end up preferring it anyway.

Edit: Dangit, I mixed up the 1s and 0s. The HUD is not fully compatible with hud_fastswitch 0, aka w/ quickswitch off.

Alright alright!

Here's a temp solution for you, though. Only bad thing about it is that you will not have the knife show up in the right panel where your ammo is displayed. Making that show up is the source of all the trouble, so here's how to remove it --

Delete scripts/mod_textures.txt
Delete materials/sprites/hud/dod_weapons01.vtf

Make the following changes to resource/ui/HudPlayerStatusPanel.res in the PlayerStatusCurrentWeapon section. The changes are in bold --

I'll look into a real fix. I know that showing that little knife isn't all that important, but I like it there. Mostly because it was a PITA to get it to work right with (almost) everything else.

Updated .zip to include install files for both users with hud_fastswitch 0 and users with hud_fastswitch 1. The readme has installation instructions.

If you use hud_fastswitch 0 and did what's in the above post, or you use hud_fastswitch 1, you need not worry about re-downloading it.

That's weird. I see the ammo on the right, and almost everything else just as was planned.

What broke for me was the victory status panel at the end of the round... it just comes up with gibberish instead of playernames and stats.

I have problems with my HUDs too, the hardest area so far is the Winpanels.

I didn't get anywhere with them until I got rid of my dod folder and went through the files one by one... there are quite a few changes and quite a few new files as well.

The main changes that destroy the custom huds up are in the ClientScheme.res file, HudLayout.res, winpanel files for axis and allies and the HudPlayerStatusPanel.res.

Add to that there are a few new files and graphics to look over... it will take a bit of time for those of us that make this stuff.

But the good news is.... from what I have seen so far it's all good and fixable!

On top of that is more Graphics to play with... I am in heaven :D

Anyway, just need to move one last bit of text and it'll be back to normal + a few changes. I'm considering redoing the left side a bit more because I think it's ugly as hell. Expect it in a day or two.

Sorry, I've just decided I'm just not satisfied with it...never have been. I'm looking into some of the "code" to see if I can get some extra background panels. It looks better now than it did, but it's still ugly imo. I want to redo some of it it now if I can -- want it to look more streamlined. Right now it just looks crappy to me. Too big and clunky. Not something I would want to use, and thus not something I would want to release.

So...NO HUD FOR YOU. Yet.

Heya, I love the HUD, but I'm just having one nagging problem with it. When I installed it (Fastswitch 0) the weapon panes for my available weapons were far off to the right, so far that a little less than half of the displayed panes were cut off.

I'd thought to just go into the files and mod it myself, but I soon realized that I have no idea what designation it would be under and what to set for the X position. Most of the positions I have seen just have an arbitrary number in there and I don't know what that is in relation to.

Some advice on this or even a push in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you! Even though I've visited the tutorial many times trying to figure this out, one thing kept eluding me. I was only looking in the resource folder, instead of also the scripts folder.

In conclusion, I'm an idiot, but the problem is now solved after some tweaking. Thanks for helping me
