That map is different than dod_salerno_rc1. Salerno is NOT and update. They are two completely different maps.

Also, as an fyi the maker of Salerno is also the maker of dod_railroad3b2. He wanted to do a huge overhaul on his famous DOD map (with Salerno), but he also wanted to do a port of his original map dod_railroad.

The maker is NOT the same, someone decompiled the original Railroad and put textures on it for Source without Insta's permission. Insta does know about it though.
But the person who ported it could have at least asked first, after all Salerno had already been released while this was happening.
The map is basically just a Half Life 1 Decompile with 1 unit thick walls, no optimization, and some sourceish textures.

Um, bullet, you're horribly wrong. Insta hasn't touched that version of railroad in 4 or so years. This was made by Talon/Dean and quickly thrown out without consideration. In fact, I helped the guy out of the hope that by doing so it'd gut out the DoD:C creed of cutting DoD:S features that bring in players, such as making excessively poor looking maps like this one for performance.
Did I make a difference, we'll see, but this map is weak at best, and a lot of work will have to go into it. Also, before working on it myself, I asked insta if he was ok with it, which he was.
In other news, dod_salerno_rc2 (or whatever it'll be called) is very good.

Just because he hasnt touched it for years it doesnt mean it is not still his intellectual property. If Insta wasnt contacted about this then the threads here should be deleted as its not right to allow the promotion of such disgusting morals.

We won't be hosting this map on our server or in any future map packs unless Insta is happy with it.

I refuse to believe that that was made by Insta. For four major reasons:
1) Why do two totally different versions of the same map?
2) The mapping style is different. Many mappers have a certain style. The different styles between the two maps are just too huge.
3) In some maps, you can just tell what skill level the mapper is at by how good the brushwork and detail work is. Salerno: Wow. The "new" Railroad.... eh... it could certainly do better.
4) Not much optimization. i.e. Where are all the displacements? The big rocks are just big brushes. A real Source mapper would use displacements for the rocks.

Sp3c-BuLLeT, may I kindly direct you over to the forum rules (http://www.dayofdefeat.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47561).
2.4. If your thread/post gets locked or you recieve a warning about your behavior, do NOT start new threads asking “why” or complaining about it. If you want to discuss it, PM a mod to pursue it further, one or two PMs is enough. Do not bombard moderator/admin PM boxes.
I would like yourself to make yourself familiar with this rule, amongst the other ones we have listed here on the DoD: Source forums.
Had this thread been sent as a PM to myself, my response would have been as follows:
The thread has been locked because it was decided that re-making a map without the original mappers permission is a big no-no on here.
We have been discussing the thread amongst the other moderators in here and will decide whether or not to re-open the thread, and allow re-makes without permission to be posted here in the future.
