ok guys
i really want to release smallhill_rc1
but i cant get the feckin custom sounds to work at all now
since the last updates for hammer, non beta and the beta versions, they just wont work.....
it makes no difference if i bspzip pakrat or res file the sounds.

someone must be having the same issues

the map will work fine local, but as soon as it is server hosted the error appears

come on some one must have a fix for this.....:ds:

Sora has a custom sound. The ambient birds etc... The only way I could get custom sounds to work was using them with a custom env_soundscape.

I've been having problems with sound not looping which is really annoying =/ I had to trigger the whole thing manually but they just wont loop normally =/

Sounds usually need a cue point to tell the file where to loop.

Place cue file in your sound at the end of it, and try again and see if that works.

Are you sure that you have definately encoded the sound correctly? Sometimes certain wav formats screw up in hl2.

Try re-encoding with 16-bit, 1 mono channel, 22kHz in PCM wav format and see if it will play then.

Make sure you are using / instead of \ in the pathname too.

I know you've probably tried those already, but its all I can think of.

Take a look at this:

http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Can_I_make_a_custom_soundscape_for_my_level%3F

and then this:

http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Soundscapes

That should tell you all you need to know to play a sound once.

Either im really stupid or blind, because i cant find one reference to playing a sound in a soundscape once ?

You could try creating a "playlooping" soundscape, cause they can be triggered. But, instead of opening up the sound file in a sound editor and adding cue points (to make it loop). Try making the sound without the cue points and triggering that?
