hi everyone.

some people in the forums mentioned their need of destroyed vehicles.

so here's a little preview of the first one i made. its the jeep, hit by something in the side.. tank or panzerfaust or something similar.
note: its a modified default jeep, which came with argentan.

look:

(yes, i found out how to turn on shadows in modelviewer :P )

it's as good as done.
i need to do the collisionmesh and the lods.

tell me what you think! and please, post some reference of destroyed vehicles hit by something in this thread (http://www.dayofdefeat.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=60958)

Amazing, but why is there no damage of the lacquer?

Is that the default DoD jeep re-modelled or did you make it yourself?

it's the default. i crushed it a little and changed some uv's to make the destruction one sided only.

and thank you all for the comments!

i'll add more scratches in my skin.

i also heard pm-rumors, that someone is going to make another skin for it :P

a little preview:
if noone stops me, i'll do damaged versions of the following vehicles in the next weeks:
222
kubelwagen
tigertank
nebelwerfer

i also have to try out how much work a burnt out version would be.

Great job.
Why dont you restore some models... The ones we have now are a bit damaged already, but not to that extent.

Hmm O.K. To be honest, the UV could be re-worked to save some texture memory too.

Its only a few parts (tyre, spring) that are normal mapped - if you moved them to a second, smaller texture and the normal mapped parts with them, you'd save texture memory because about 85% of the current normal map is just empty space.

yes, i was kindof shocked to see the normalmap half empty. looks like someone run out of time before it got released :/

...actually, i planned on doing some addition on the normalmap.
especially some scratches and dirty parts should work pretty well...

Ah well in that case, yes, that would work.

Still, I'm a bit of a Nazi when it comes to saving system resources! :D

You could still move the tyre and spring to a seperate texture to retain the 1:1 relationship between the normal and UV and then use a normal map 1/2 or 1/4 the size of the main texture for dinks and scratches.

Saying that, its a fairly common trick to use a texture half the size of the original for damage models anyway.
