Is it possible to make a loading screen a GIF?

They have to be VMF or whatever the hell the Valve extension is. You could try to make a map loading screen, though(keyword, try)

I already tried something like this. I used the same method as to make an animated spray, but the game would read one frame from it, then stretch everything out of proportion and wouldn't animate it.:(

oh, cause all needed was just smoke rising from a burning tank. or rain falling.
