Alright guys, here's some shots of a map I've been working on for a few days now. It's supposed to be set in a small town in the hedgerows near Carentan. It'll be US Paratroopers vs. Fallschirmjaeger. I've been reading about the 101st fighting against elements of the the 6th Fallschirmjaeger Regiment, and I guess it inspired me to start working on this map.

Enjoy!

r_speeds are somewhat high in this shot

Looks nice, but to me it looks like it could use some variation in theme. You know, landmark type things that help players get oriented, or more variety in building textures. Looks nice so far though, keep it up.

doesn't look too bad.
But as said before, add some variation, fill the streets with stuff, add obstacles, stuff to hide behind and find cover. And more detail ! But it looks like an OK start so far.

The Great Kleinluka has visited my thread. I had planned on some obstacles, setting up the architecture right now and seeing how the r_speeds are faring, basically my idea is to make the mainstreets a deathtrap, but passable, while making the several pathways around them through the houses and buildings. It's very much in the style of dod_jagd.

btw, your textures are sofa king awsome to use

Looks pretty good, but as said before, could use a lot of detail...

learn how to block vis properly. looking at your pics, theres no reason why your r_speeds should be that high once you properly block it. theres some good tutorials in mapping faq i think. little confusing at first but you'll get it.

and theres no need to suck up to klein :)

Looks like dod jagd with out the detail and atmosphere...

It is a wip though...

Hope it comes out well

I think it has a nice look to it but in a few spots you should try and reduce the r_speeds some

i say, do some r_speed work on the houses and side walk, that way, you could add more ruble, but the map looks very good, I love the textures

Looks great, I really like it and I like the way to do windows and broken things. My only suggestion is to add some color. 90% of the screen shots are brown or black.

@NC17: thought the exact same thing: dod_jagd

the last screenshots shows a house that looks like an exact copy of a house from jagd if I'm not mistaken...

anywayz, looks like a good WIP. Just give it some more detail and personality so you don't get the critic of having made a jagd-rip off.

you are not mistaken, I'm planning on replacing that building in the not too distant future, however I may be putting this map on hold for a little while.

I'm trying to work at just producing a smaller, village sized map that has a lot of details, but not a massive epic map like jagd or zalec. In the past I've always tried to just launch out and make massive maps, and always end up running into problems with r_speeds and what not.

Then as I get better, I'll start working on progressively larger projects.

A bit like jagd, but doesn't have the Tall, wide atomsphere Jagd has.

Go with more of a village theme to get rid of those jagd comments. Start adding some foilage, grass, trees, and more country like.. architecture. Perhaps watch some bob episodes for ideas...
