Any custom maps comming out that are big and open like CoD 2 maps? These old DOD go from point a to b to c to d and there is 1 or 2 paths from a to c maps are really boring and linear...

I think the fact that dod maps are like that, is one of the reasons the game plays so well. Even if people don't really care about what anyone else is doing, they all end up fighting over the same flag, and as a result, end up playing as a team to capture the flag whether they meant to or not.
In CoD the big open "go anywhere" maps just allow people to scatter in all directions so there's absolutely no teamwork - deliberate or accidental - just loads of people running around on their own, capping flags that are immediately capped back again because the team hasn't actually occupied the area that was just captured.
I'm not against bigger maps with more routes, but I think the tug of war from one end of the map to the other is DoD's best gameplay feature.

are the cod2 maps similar to those in cod:uo? as in size
dod_whitnall may be big, i'm trying to make more linear, so it's possible that the amount of accessable buildings may be lower than most other maps

dod_sora is medium to large in size and non-linear. Personally, I'm not a big fan of linear maps. :)
Barring no major issues sora_b3 will be released friday night, (December 9).

Hello,
Big maps can be really frustrating in DOD !
It happens a lot that I get killed the second I enter an area where the battle is going on (I'm a real bullet & grenate magnet). When this happens after walking/running for over a minute to that place it's really just annoying !
On a small map I just have to walk for a few seconds before I'm back in action.
Another thing is that for bigger maps you need more people, otherwise conquering the map (all flags) becomes more of a running job in stead of a conquering job. This also means that you are more dependant on luck and less on skill.
So I for one am more in favour of smaller maps with several (but not too many) different routes. It keeps me in the action and that's the reason I play it.
But that's just me.

dod_dijon_rc1 is big, but not "open" per se.
dod_verdun_b3 is open, but not big.
