whudup.
After a bit of input about the project im indertaking~
I seriously do need some grid paper I know, bit of a mess but at the very least it's better than what I usually do and dont draw a layout :P Currently working on a couple of other dod maps, 1 includes source port of dod_cal_sherman2 -_-
Lemme know what you think, you can find my dev journal on this @ http://mapmonger.com/para_carentan/ or just link from mapmonger.com (http://mapmonger.com)
Nice idea, I was looking to doing a map of Carentan once I had fixed up some other things on Arras, however, my editor has died.

Hehe, im maming a map that is based on carentan architecture. I have a whole folder of screenshots from the Band Of Brothers - Carentan. Again, im not directly making my map about ehir carentan experience, but a similar one.

send me sherman2 for source when you are about to release it and i'll see what the collective cal says
looks better than my sketches which are boxes and lines.

Well i'll asume that round timers can be set, I havent looked into this just get as I haven't got this far.
-round timer
-1 cap zone over the whole map that will cap when only 1 team is in the zone
It's basically a hax way of doing it but its easy,

It does appear to have the same layout as CoD's Carentan

I C Travis. Had my hopes up there for a second. Another disappointment in my book. I see no reason why they at least would let custom mappers make 'para' style maps. Lame.

I could have sworn I saw the timer settings on the dod_control_point_master - check it out.

Will there be additional cap zones, or just the one large one?

the timer does work:

i used it in my dogsector map, not sure how though and it hasn't worked for a while. i think i might have disabled it for testing but it is either in the dod_control_point_master as Rolk said or in the doddetect, can't remember which (or even if the doddetect exists in source).

Yeah I totally agree, I don't know why the dod team took out para support in v1.1 I think. No one ever said having para support means that there has to be official para maps.

Well the large cap zone isn't really a cap zone, it's just a way of achieving para. The idea is the capzone covers the whole map and takes 1 person to capture, a capture zone can't be taken if the opposition is in the zone so when there is no opposing players left the zone will be capped by the remaining players.
It's likely i'm going to make a version with flags/objectives also after talk with Zyndrome... Someone will probably rip flags into it so I may aswell do that myself.

What do the circles with the X's represent?
Way to go with the pencil paper thingy.... I bet about 80% of all mappers skip that first crucial step.

Looking good dude! Don't feel limited by the layout set by CoD though - should expand where necessary ;)

No it isn't, as said this map is loosely based on Call od Duty's Carentan, when I say loosely that's exactly what I mean, it's not going to be an exact replica for some obvious reasons like budget. Would be very hard to deal with the whole map being very open.

I'm asuming you're talking about the sidewalks? If so read http://mapmonger.com/para_carentan/ where I said that this was me testing out some scale ie. how big I want the roads, how high I want the sidewalks.

No southhouse is still going to be there but it is going to need to be changed a bit, I didn't reall do it so well in my sketch so I will have to have a rethink in that area - It's going to be tricky in that area because you can literally see the whole map, it may be the case that it needs to be changed as I have accounted for allready. Loosely based.
