Player Max Polycount

What would you say the maximum number of polygons for a player model would be? My buddy's makin a 105mm howitzer and wants to know, for comparison.

Player models are about 4900 polys all in.

The Tiger tank is 10733 polys at LOD0, 9029 at LOD1, 6829 at LOD2 and 3191 at LOD3.
