IS relation to custom models?

I am under the impression that your IS view is not a .tga picture but the model at a different angle. Is this correct?

If so, when the sdk is released, you guys will be able to make different(read: SMALLER) IS views?

Just a thought.

If I'm wrong, please use lubrication.

the IS view is a model at a straight angle, to change the view you'll either have to learn how to re-origin or animate.

What about how the bar changes origin when switching to semi auto mode? Could you re-origin it to go into Ironsight mode too? That would be pretty neat.

unless I'm mistaken, it works the same way HL1 reorigining would, i.e. it would have to be in permanent IS view.

Theirs no IS view in the model - I belive its hard coded into the games code to take the weapon and move it to the IS position.

I would assume if you messed with the default origins in the model then the IS effect would be lost as when you switch to IS mode the model wont be where it expects it to be.

Unless of course Valve were clever and used a reference bone/attachment point denoting the position of the rear sight and simply move that to directly in front of your point of view.

I asked PIU about this several weeks ago and he said that changing the model's origin would affect the positioning of the sights in IS mode. Same thing for having to be extremely careful with rigging custom models for rifles so that the sights line up correctly.

This is good news. Can't wait to see how the community applies it!
