40 Minute Vis Compile..Why?

I just recently wanted to test out the lighting in dod_schwarzung, which has less than a 4th of the map done, but anyway, I normally just do a fast vis compile, but I was having a friend look things over so far, so I did normal vis and the compile took 38 minutes for Vis alone..and the only light entitys I have is 1 light_enviorment, and a few ceiling lights in a large building (5 or 6)..
Any ideas why? the bsp is 3mb, and it's going to be really annoying when I'm trying to adjust lighting to wait 40 minutes every compile

Also there is no visual difference between fast and normal vvis. Normal vvis is for final compiles and yeilds better framerates if you map is optimized.
Fast vvis is good for WIP maps since it gives a good look at what the map will look like with lightmaps but doesnt have quite the same fraferate normal vis gives you.

I noticed a huge difference, with fast my map was extremely dark (actually how I wanted it) but with normal it looks like morning

Wrong.
Vis does not compile lighting, that is RAD.

vis does have an effect on lighting source though. i don't know how exactly, but if i skip vis, it seems like my light_environment is missing or something and the map's a lot darker than if i compile with fast vis.
but RAD is actually the part that specifically deals with lighting. vis in source just seems to have some sort of side-effect on lighting.

No, it's not wrong, because I just did it again, and it's almost completely dark with fast Vis, and light with normal. I'm not saying vis compiles lighting, I'm simply saying it completely changes the lighting in my map

Lol how can he be wrong on a fact. He is saying that that is what happens when he compiles with fast vis and normal vis. Its not an opinion, therefore he cant be wrong.

oh and just to clarify, i fixed the compile times by getting rid of my giant box skybox
