[Update] Dod_dijon

Back in the first thread, lots of feedback were given on how it looked like 1.3. Seen as I hadn't really put any effort in detailing the map but wanted to test the gameplay, that was logical.

So a couple weeks since then, here is what I think should be my finished church. Unless you guys find something that looks odd or would do things differently.

Have a look, if there's anything you'd change let me know. On dod_dijon23, the side railings have been moved so the transition in the pillar would be smooth. The pic is therefore not entirely accurate of how it is now (dod_dijon25)

That looks pretty sick bra, you do need to lush it up a bit more though

You'll need to excuse my English, but I don't see what you mean by needing to lush the map up? Does that mean it's too dark?

MUCH improved from when I last saw it. So how long before you release a beta? I would love to toss this on my server and give it a whirl ;)

I did get an explanation for "lush", so I know you mean I should sourcify it a bit more. Any suggestions on what you'd want to see in the church then?

As for the beta, I don't think I should release any before the SDK is out at the very least. I'd rather take the extra time if extra time there should be to optimize things to my heart's content. Then present the community a clean copy.

Testers will obviously test the map before hand, but that'll be closed to CoJ and 907th. Actually seen as asshats were not able to restrain themselves from leaking Anvil, I'm not even sure CoJ will host a test. I'd rather invite people I know are reliable on the 907th private servers.

Very nice. The building 2nd from the right in that outside picture looks a little weird to me though. Coming along well.

looks great!

what is the functional/gameplay role of the church?

Furyo
10-24-2005, 02:41 PM
The middle of the church is the cap area for the middle flag. Allies come from the back through a garden and a door, which makes them go right through the choir.

Axis come in through the front entrance, via the plaza (dod_dijon26). it's equidistant from both spawns, and from the playtest, it's a real bloodbath inside the church :)

/me looks at the pretty pictures

Nice.

Lush means make it pretty looking ... he seems to think you should make it look better then it does, as you say ... source it up more ... :donrluvs:

dunno why though ... looks cool, then again I'm 39 so what do I know about cool :kitty:

Lol that made me giggle :) I guess I still have a chance at grasping the coolness of it all then ;)

Seriously I'd like to see some suggestions rather than "lush it up". While "lush it up" is good feedback, "this or that" is great feedback :) I'm gonna get my brain cells to operate again and organize something up there, I'll see what the storm can give me...

Honestly, the screens you gave us only allow to say that...everything else looks good. Maybe a private playtest or something would get you better feedback :)

I'm curious about the sanctuary details....does it have a high altar and tabernacle? Altar rails?

I remember dod_kampf....was very cool in most respects but didn't have altars, etc. A big neon cross, actually, in the main sanctuary.

Anyway, the rest of your map looks beautiful.

The church surely has an altar...and more....

Have a look at the models that come with dods and those might spark your imagination and allow you to "lush it up". Just my two cents. The map is quite impressive looks like you have spent a lot of time with it. keep up the good work.

not bad but is there some thing to keep snipers from spawen killing.

Furyo

Both spawns are entirely protected, no worries on this side. Well you can still bump someone into the allies spawn if you really try hard, but asshats will be asshats.

great looking map

constructive points.
add the details that make it look lived in. models of broken and damaged phys objects scattered around instead of the nice flower pots. they wouldn't need to be phys objects though (and performance will be better if they aren't ;) )

find images of newspapers that were in circulation then and put them onto the ground as overlays.

little details like that make all the difference

can't wait to set an mg up on the alter or in the pulpit, or snipe the door from the organ loft

Thx for that, I'll try and dig up some old stuff from the past yeah :)

Furyo, love your idea. One question. The pews in the church (chairs) please tell me they are destructable...be so annoying if they get knocked around, and turned into a maze! :(

teflon{the_truth}

hey Furyo, I have just one question...........When can we look for the release?

Furyo
11-06-2005, 09:42 AM
Seethus, the pews are not destructible, but they also can't be moved, including by bullets. They are the same as the anzio church ones, and will react the same way. I've also made sure to leave enough room between them so players don't get stuck in between the rows. It feels playable to me, testing will show if I'm right....

As far as release is concerned: Some time after the release of the SDK contents, at the very least.

I think he is doing a wonderful job and has gotten many many suggestions from the playtest last Saturday. Hopefully he'll be adjusting and tweaking quick enough for a public beta soon!!

ENJOY!!
