I've started to work my old map dod_verdun and...
Bah, here's the screenshots. (http://personal.inet.fi/koti/akku.hirvonen/)

Complete rework. Only the name has remained same. Comments, please.

Btw. What do you think if I make the objectives like in the beach maps so allies would try take over the axis positions ?

Verdun was one of my fav. maps

only thing i can say is the bigger the better thats what looks to be what everyone wants a large playing Field the 4 maps in DoD-s is small and getting old very fast!

Thats great news!
Verdun was always a favourite and chosen as one of the maps played in the SunLit custom map league.

Verdun was/is an excellent map, in all it's many different versions;) I preferred it back in the day the cl_fog 2 was still a usable command, it's just looked perfect trying to cross the field with the fog and all, good times!

I must say, this version looks great, i'm really looking forward to it. One thing though, will there be enough cover from the mg's? Given the deadliness of MG's in source, and looking at your screenshot of the axis mg over the field, it looks like a really clear field of vision for him..It's hard to judge by SS though, i look forward to playing it a lot, nice to see old classic customs re-done:)

Nice to see those picture and the fact you decided to port this great map to Source. This map was always liked and played a lot in 907th.

Many are very happy this comming out for chistmas. If you ever need beta tester I could organise a private one to test your map.

Good luck with your project.

You used to go by ****paw right?

Or am I thinking of someone else?

Didn't we help you finish the prior version w/ testing at CoJ? Regardless, I'm willing to help you out w/ playtesting if needed.

I really think this is the kind of map that will play BETTER in dod-source the 1.3

w00t! :)

to answer your question...maybe release two versions. one with flag caps, and one with objectives, to satisfy all players.

anyways. i loved the old version of the map. ill see how this one turns out. continue to work hard at it. one thing though, u can add a little more detail to those houses. take advantage of props and decals. i see some, but u can do more. add props or do work around the houses, like a gate, or shed, put a wagon..whatever

Dimgora - Verdun = best map ever. I'm not one of these Urban Alley devotees.

Give me Campagne and Verdun 24/7.

very nice map :) cant wait to try it out, altho im a big fan of urban combat, ive come to love hegdrow country :), id love to see a campaign of maps from like d-day on the beaches of normandy to the outskirts of paris .. covering all the areas, st lo., caen, carentan, etc etc.. Would be even better to make them look more realisitc.. none of this close quaters stuff, open fields, crawling through hegdrows to avoid gunfire etc. :)

Thanks to everyone for your feedback!

Currently I have nearly finished the axis side of the field and the allies side is still under construction.

And I'm going to add little more detail to the field... But not too much cause I want it to be a hell for allies to cross it ^^ When I tested it with my friends it wasnt that hard to get across if you used smokes and exploited the terrain shapes.

And I probably make it allies attack, axis defend map with flags... Or objectives like blow up the 88's if I can find satisfying model for it.

You used to go by :donrluvs::donrluvs::donrluvs::donrluvs:paw right? Yes I did ;) And if I remember you did help me to test it out. When the time comes I'm glad if people are willing to playtest it so we can see how it works in action before final release.

Looks very original, glad to see a map not set in a city for a change :) Just be sure theres plenty of bushes/haystacks and what not for cover in the open areas. Should make for some interesting firefights. I cant wait to see the final version, keep it up :hamster:

Nice start !

Would look much better with a 3d skybox and some more details added to the houses.

If you need a Flak 88, there is a model in this thread:

Actually, there is a 3D skybox :D And the houses were just put there to see how they would look like. I've added lots of details into them.

Count SunLit Games would love to help playtest your new Verdun.

Thanks, I will keep you in mind ;)

Oo, I've missed that. Thanks.

We'll also be glad to host a Playtest. We're already gaining a solid following as a custom map server, but without hosting the cheesy, non-DoD style maps. We also have 200 maps in our old v1.3 server, so our guys know alot about various maps, which could be a benefit to the tactical layout of the later versions of this map for ya.

More importantly, my suggestions are as follows:

- As suggested earlier, make a flag version and an objective version of this map. Please!

- I might also suggest making a version called dod_verdun_ultra and make the open areas much larger (If map performance allows it). I would then take a look at the map dod_snow_battlefield_final and see how they have the clouds in the mountains. If you could incorporate those clouds into the larger open areas of Verdun, it could be alot of fun to play. Just a thought.

- I personally liked the version of Verdun on our old server, where it incorporated the open areas with some CQB-style buildings on both sides of the map. Very cool to blend both styles of play like that.

Sorry if these are repeated (or impossible) suggestions:

-The creek running through the map looks abit bland right now. I would suggest trying some combination of creekside foilage and some custom smooth wet rock prop_models both in the creek and nearer to the shore. In the HL2 texture set there is also wet pebble bed texture that could look good in the creek.

-If you can try and get an alternate prop_model for the trees you have circling the map, just for alittle more variety. Also try varying the distance they are set back into the skybox to give the surroundings a more natural shape.
