Stummann Josuf - VERSION 2

a big improvement, at least in my eyes.

This is the skin I wanted. This is the skin I'm using. I think I finally axis'd myself out. Take a rest and start on the allies. No I'm not making it dirty or changing a rank or pin or button or fleck of dust or an Elvis outline sighted in the camo pattern.

Never was happy with the Sturmmann release. Just didn't look right. Too orangy (yeah I just made up a word sue me). I had tried to cut corners by using already available camo patterns. Bad idea. For this version, I ended up making my own just from looking at pictures of a particular type of "44 dot" camo used in mid-late war Germany. Then I got the bright idea to make 2 skins. Then I got an even brighter idea to make a "chicken wire" helmet net (warning do not attempt this if you are not psychologically stable already).

anyway enough banter here are pics

here is the file ( 9.5 mb )

http://files.filefront.com/Sturmmann_Josef_V2rar/;4265149;;/fileinfo.html

here are excerpts from the readme

2 skins - full "44 dot" camo on HBT top, bottom and helmet cover.
This is is MUCH improved on the last version's 44 dot camo pattern.
While technically both are actual patterns used by WW2 Germany,
This version is really the look I was trying to achieve last time.
After many requests last time around I decided to do a version with
only a camo tunic (top). At last minute thought it would be a great
idea to add "chicken wire" netting to the helmet. I will never do
that again unless money is involved. Major pain in the butt. But
damn it came out looking good. Helmet is smearing with broken
plaster, I.A.W. German Army procedures for field-expedient camo
in an urban enviroment.

CHANGES IN 2.0
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
- corrected error from version 1 where I had accidentally
camoflagued the shirt sleeve sticking out of the tunic
- added matching sleeve skin for first person P.O.V.
- all skins have bump maps now (works outstanding on the helmet
wire netting)
- MUCH IMPROVED "44 dot" camoflague pattern

.... looks amazing!!

but I still think that we need a whole new player model to make a perfect waffen ss soldier...the default model has a repainted wehrmacht tunic and we need ss smocks,..also the model would be better with typical ss gaiters..

amazing skin anyway!!

submodels for each class are needed!!!

they're there, they just all pretty much look the same. I was planning on modifying the default models to give each class a seperate .vtf and slightly more accurate features, but some of the stuff involved baffles me. :(

Absolutely incredible, Wile E. I'm using for sure.

I hope we get to see some equally detailed US player skins in the future. Incredibly well done.

Oh... and the sleeve looks exactly the same as default with the wrinkles and the collar. How did you put a texture on top of the sleeve without disrupting those?

Can someone who has this skin host it on rapidshare or something? Can't get the link he posted to work for me

Wow, beautiful just beautiful. Great work Wile. One thing though, I know you said you would'nt edit a thing but I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants the camo helmet cover on the camo top model :) If not you maybe someone else with the proper knowledge could edit this? So, the Camo helmet on the model with the camo top only, would be greatly appreciated. I would do it myself but I cant. I dont know how to.

Ps. my first post :D

Okay here's the deal:

If someone wants to take the time to put up links to download sites, that have DOD:Source model/skin submissions, I will take the time to submit them to all those sites. As of now I have FilePLanet and FileFront, and Fileplanet apparently did go through for some reason.

But I don't have tons of time to search the internet for download/upload DOD sites :D as you can see I spend a lot of time skinning instead.

Awesome skins, thank you for making a version where the models are only wearing a camo smock, and not a full camouflage set... love the version with the grey Feldhose and the Stahlhelm with the chicken wire... awesome, simple awesome.

They look good.

But I touched up the skins from the previous version and I think I'll stick with them.

I knew it was only a mater of time before the realism Nazi came in.

What's the history behind the "chicken wire" helmet? I'm a little confused.

The chicken wire served the same purpose as the netting on allied helmets.... i.e. allowing the soldier to put "scrim" on his helmet to break up the distinct outline of the "lid"

Scrim could either be strips of hessian material or more usually, grass, leaves and twigs...

Troops would not require scrim all the time, especially not if in the assault or on advance to contact...reduced need for cam...

In the defensive role camoflauge becomes very important....and used more often

Great addition to the skin I think...

now, if someone can only tell me how to get the bloody rar for Josef Mk 2 to work..lol

do you have WinRar (http://www.rarlab.com/)? if not I suggest you download it, much better that WinZip at compressing and supports a wide range of formats. after that, right click on the rar and select one of the extraction options. ;)

Wile, I don't know if this has been asked or not, but when the helmet gets shot off...Do you see the default helmet on the ground on a custom one? I only ask because Higgin's 3rd ID had this feature and I'd love to use this with his Allied.

Because his favorite pet, Socks, came in one night and changed the video settings because...well...Socks is a cat. Cats see faster than humans, and Socks can see the refresh rate of his monitor flickering even at the highest settings. So what does Socks the cat care if the graphics are slightly blurry? He just wants a good framerate while he plays his DoD:S.

Do you understand now, how the first Thanksgiving was celebrated on a blue tarp?
