It's a conspiracy.

The beta map will be released by this weekend for anyone to test. Be patient.

Will it have the Eiffel tower in the skybox, or can you still get into it to snipe from?

No, but here you go for map statistics (click refresh to see how it updates as I work on the map):

Click for map stats (http://web.engr.oregonstate.edu/~holtt/mapstat.php?m=DoD_Anvil&a=Fuzzdad)

And...I decided I can't release screen shots until I have a professional looking border on the top and bottom w/my name on it (mebbie my logo as well) with the name of the map in some really cool Napolean Dynamite-looking font.

Not finished. Map icons to be redone. Need minimap. Need more models for objectives. Playtests going great. FPS quite good. 10.5MB zipped, 30MB unzipped. No HDR yet. Shooting for weekend release but might not make it (will release beta version to get feedback if not gold). Pulled two all nighters, on caffiene. Could have stroke any minute. Better living though chemical dependency is the inside beta name of the map.

I played B7 for a couple hours tonight and had a blast. Great map! :)

For some reason I couldn't find the 2nd axis objective the whole time. Is it the flak gun? If so, where is it?

It is the flak gun (if you remember the old falaise map). It's by the axis spawn, just follow the side street to the right of the allies spawn.

I can't even remember the name of the server. I just sorted the list of servers by map name and saw Anvil right at the top. :)

Yes...it's the 88mm gun. Since I don't have a minimap and a 88mm cap icon yet, and the other objectives are all placeholder Tiger tanks it's understandable it can take time to learn the gameflow.

Here's the cap: http://mysite.verizon.net/warewind/images/1.jpg

to the right is the axis spawn area...past the 88mm (under the barrel) is the hotel that is at the center of the map and if you follow the road into the distance (to the left of the barrel) it takes you to allied one.

Some guys get all excited over beta versions of maps they steal and then run them. No matter. Any pub is good pub.

Indeed! Looks like you're at about 95% with Gridding and 92% PR/Marketing. How's the animal placement going? Last time I checked your map stats (http://web.engr.orst.edu/~holtt/mapstat.php) it was only at 6%.

I'm glad you like it. My problem is that the map, as you have it, is not complete. There's no minimap, the objectives are not complete yet, there are all sorts of exploits, there are mutiple bugs, etc. In other words...it's still in testing. As a mapper I love to get feedback and all...but I don't want to see any of my test maps in rotation until they are complete. It doesn;t do anyone justice...from the mapper who get's a bad name when someone not knowing it's a test map starts to complain about all the bugs, to the server admins who have to answer why only 8 allies can sapwn, and so on.

The rule set for the testers was not to share and not to give the map out to anyone. I would think you'd honor that agreement.

(I didn't know I wasn't supposed to have it)

The first time I joined the server there were only 3 or 4 people in it. Not fighting, just talking, looking around, and trying to figure out why the ground was purple. :D All I wanted to do was run around and check out the architecture and texture work. (both are very well done and impressive, btw)

They took the server down so I went and played another map for a while, then when I refreshed the server list I saw that it was up again. This time there were about 12 people, the ground was no longer purple, and war was happening.

I'd give you some feedback, but I can't think of any complaints right now. I might run around in it by myself later tonight and if I notice anything awry I'll let you know. ;)

If you want to work w/me then pull the map off rotation. I neither gave you permission to use it in this fashion nor do I condone it's continued use. Can I be anymore clear?

teflon{the_truth}

the map has pulled from rotation. Done.

\

In order to keep this from happening again. beta test on a local server or lan.or password protect the server when u r testing it.

Otherwise this will always happen. I am not the only server with this map in rotation. Check the server list.

But as I said before it will be removed from rotation.

I shall no longer post in this topic again.

Cheers. Teflon

now please address why u used the word "steal".

are u selling the map? if u r, what is the price?

As i said before it was given to me it was on another server before mine.

I just made a post about it (mistake)

but what dont understand i why u dont want people to play it even if it is in beta. It is very playable. and really the only good one out now.

Truthfully what does FuzzDad lose?

Something doesn't have to be for sale to be stolen. My favorite teddy bear (I don't really have one *cough*) might not be for sale, does that mean you can take it?

Just think of it this way. FuzzDad is an old granny working on a beautiful quilt. What you're doing is taking the quilt from him before it's done and using it as though it is done. It gets people confused and thinking "Oh... well maybe granny can't make quilts like she used to."

Pardon my granny analogy, FD. :P

I'd say Fuzzdad used the word "steal" because he hasn't released the map to the public yet. You say you didn't "steal" the map but were given it. Just because someone gave it to you doesn't change the fact that it is "stolen goods".

Fuzzdad, like most mappers, take pride in their work and don't want to release half finished bug-riddled maps. I respect that and would not put a map on my server before it was released publicly or I was given permission to use it.

Gypsy

Who ever gave him the map is as much to blame

and i suspect if FuzzDad finds out who - it'll be the last beta test he does on maps for some time to come

cobaltgrc

So the lesson we learned from this is that the only safe way to test a map is on a lan? Or... there is no safe way to test a map?

FuzzDad
10-20-2005, 06:46 PM
The lesson is some people don't do what you ask. Nothing more and nothing less. So endith the lesson and this thread. I'll startup another one w/better pics when it's close to a general release. I still want to wait until the HDR & SDK toolset are available (which should be at the end of the month).

Oh...GRANNY!!! ARE YOU OuT of YEr FReaking MinDDD!!!@#@#$$
