weapon skins go in the dod\materials\models\weapons\v_(or w_)models\ then a folder names adter the weapon they replace, such as garand, mp44, m1carbine, k98_scoped, ect.

for the full list of the weapon folder names, search for a program called gcfscape, download and install it, close steam (a mandatory step if you want to open any .gcf files), run gcfscape, and open and search the day of defeat source.gcf file.

When you say black rifle, I'm going to assume you mean the reskinned garand. In that case, you need to have 2 differend folders. I'm going to list the directory structure of both, just create new folders if those don't exist that I list.

materials/models/weapons/v_models/garand
materials/models/weapons/w_models/garand

Your v_garand file goes into the garand folder in v_models. Your p_ and w_ files go into the garand folder in w_models.

If it was the kar you downloaded, replace every instance of 'garand' up there with 'k98'.

there aren't any p_'s with Source, the w_ has taken over its job. ;)

i have put the v garand and the v kar in the v weapons file. i have also put the w files in the w weapons file. still nothing works. are you sure there isnt anyhing else you forgetting to tell me?

You're not being very specific yourself and it's making this pretty hard. From what I read there it sounds like you just put those files into the v_ and w_models folder instead of into the garand and k98 folders within the v_ and w_models folder. Is this wrong?

There's a few of them yet in the GCF.

i had put these player skins on a week ago. germans with nazi armbands and 101 allies. there great, but i saw these axis skins i really want. what do i delete to get rid of skins and add new ones???? when i get the new ones, if i figure out how to delete old ones, should i extract them to c/valve/steam/steamapps/dodsource/dod/materials/models/players? do i not

Yes, yes you do.
Delete the current VTF/VTM files. Those two should be the only two files you should have. Extract the new VTF/VTM files to that vary same folder you had your original in. Or you can just overwrite the original.

Reading the readme file that comes with the file that you downloaded also helps too. <.<

what i dont understand is this... i went to materials/models/players and saw where it said german and american and said normal body and stuff. i deleted both of these so players is blank. it says nothing about germans or americans, but skins are still there. where is what i have to delete located?? can you tell me specific file??

Splinter

I don't understand either. Having deleted all files in your players folder should revert you back to the default skins.
Make new germans/americans folder and drop the new skin set that you want in there and test.

i went to materials/models/players
It should be 'player'/'german'/'american'.
All singular.

Check to see if you have a 'player' folder right next to your 'players' folder. You could be editing the wrong directory.

To uninstall a player skin, you just deleted every file in the respective folder. Ie. to delete your german skin, go to your materials/models/player/german and delete everything in there.

And could you please not be so damn vague? Again, it sounds like you deleted both the american and german folders from your player folder. I can't be sure though because you are being so dodgy with the details.

I'm going to try not to confuse you here. The default skins for the game are not kept in those folders. When there is nothing in those folders the game loads it's default skins; hence why the skins are still there despite you having deleted them. You're just seeing the defaults. All you need to do now to install your new skins is to put them in the correct folder. Those folders would be:
materials/models/player/american
materials/models/player/german
Remeber to create any of these folders that you don't have or have deleted. Whatever is in those folders overrides the defaults and is what would be shown in game.

I hoped that helped, but if it didn't please provide more specific info on what the problem is.

Might be a stupid question, but where is this materials folder? It's in your day of defeat source folder, right? And when you extracted the files to german, it didn't extract them already in folders did it? In your german folder there are, I assume, two files called german_body and german_gear?

well i got a dumber question than that. where is this dod folder? am i in the wrong place? should i go to program files, then valve, then steam, the steamapps, then my name, then dods? is that where i should make player folder? cuz where i was that was the only file i could find with player. also, if i reinstall the game would it set back to default?

First of all, don't reinstall the game, that's unneccissary(or however you spell it :/). That is your dods folder. The exact place where it needs to go is this:

C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\<your e-mail>\day of defeat source\dod\materials\models\player\german

If your german_body.vtf file is in that german folder, it will show up in game.

Hmm, that sounds like one is a .vmt file. And if that's the case, then that's perfectly normal. I wasn't sure if your particular skin had a gear or not. If it doesn't it doesn't matter.

ok i went to that specific place and erased the german body there. finally the old skins are gone. but when i dragged the axis reskin over the german in player the new skins didnt work. should i extract it again to that place?

Couldn't hurt. If it's in the same place as the one you deleted then there shouldn't be a reason it doesn't work. Also, make sure the file you put in is acctualy the skin. It should be a .vtf file and much much larger than 1kb.

Of course you can keep them, you can have a skin for every weapon. You need to put the new stg44 skin in a new folder within v_models along with your rifle folder called mp44.

jake, im afraid i misunderstand you. when i go to c/programfiles/valve/steam/steamapps/myname/dods/dod/materials/models/weapons and go to v_models, there is a folder with the stg44 in it. the readme tells me nothing. when i click on stg it goes to materials 1,2,and 3. it says 1 is the black stg so im dragging the v files to the page with stg on it. am i doing something wrong?? cuz thats how i did it with the rifles. do i take all 3 different materials to the folder?? please help cuz you the man jake.

v_stg.vmt and v_stg.vft both need to be in

Steam/SteamApps/YourEmail@YourHost.com/Day of Defeat Source/dod/materials/models/weapons/v_models/mp44

If there is no v_stg.vmt don't worry about it, it uses the default.

If I answer are you just going to create a new topic to answer the question again?

If not, then put the flags in

dod\materials\models\mapmodels\flags

You mean like this (http://www.dayofdefeat.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55342) one hidden in the releases forum? Still needs stuff added to it like the ones asked about in this thread though...

Do not expect any help with that attitude. Might as well ask somewhere else or learn some manners.
