I got bored so fiddled with .vtf files and background sizes. Here is what I came up with with my messing around.

I think the 2nd one looks better.


Anyway, these all look good, but the white glow outlining the black box is really nasty. Making it solidly black, with no transparency and no glow would be a big improvement.

Heck, removign the black box completely would be even better! That way you could see the barrel of the MG better.

You should make the background 2048x2048, it doesn;t have to be the same size as the stock one

Anyway, i love everything cept the background, i like the new menu and the logo bar but the backgrounds you posted are quite lame

just seems to plain like that.:confused:

I like them all but they will just be stretched out in my 1440x900 resolution. :(

How about a D-Day beach landing screen... would fit the theme of DOD pretty well as that is where the ground war in Europe between the Americans and the Germans began.

are you sure you've put it in the right place, and that you didn't miss-type the name?

But good job there! I'm not really diggin the MG42 shots, something just ain't right, but I really like the thompson/colt shots.

Although I definitely have to agree the "box" background for the text just doesn't look good on any of the pics (mine included, that's why I abandoned the idea on mine :) ). Yeah I tried it also and discovered that people running 800x600 will see things line up different, the text is not in the same places.

maybe I'll release a version without a box. lol.

I desaturated the Mg42 images a bit, the originals are really bright, the green grass is really.. well green. It didn't have that "old WWII feeling" to it .

Ahh... the paratrooper background looks great, but the download isn't working.

Spare a Thompson for a friend Lotus? :D

Ah Black Lotus these are great, you have inspired me to take a picture of some of my German stuff and then if you'd like you can make a background out of that!

Figured out a way to make the backgrounds cycle at random. :) Posted it in Support/Help but who goes there? :o

Checked it out, works a charm. Only problem is if you set a number of chapters higher than backgrounds you have, it seems HL2 menu backgrounds get tossed in too, so just set it to the number of backgrounds you have in the chapter background file. Couple this with random startup music and its like a new game each time! :D
