Is there a limit to how many spawn points?

I'm not a mapper so this may sound kind of dumb but I've noticed on a couple of the custom maps so far there is only 12 a side able to join. The rest of the players on our 32 man server have to sit in spec. Wouldn't you put more spawn points into a map especially for source? Or is it a server setting that regulates this? I've noticed this on snow_battlefield_final and I think on omaha_v1. Haven't noticed on any other maps yet.

Anyone that doesn't put 20 a side for spawn points shouldn't be mapping. Even in the day when 32 was max in 1.3, I would put 20 per side spawn points.

Ive seen 64 player servers.

So really, if you think the map is big enough to support it, adding 32 spawn points for each time is not a hard thing to do

Thats true watchtower. Can all 64 play at once? I heard it was 40 max. In that case you should put 40 a side spawn points, and no, there is no limit to my knowledge.

64 players server is the current server end limit, you should therefore have at least 66 spawn points total (just to keep numbers even).

It doesn't really matter if you think your map can support 64 players, there will be people to try it anyway

I guess someone can't go and add more spawn points to these maps without having to release another version? People want to play these maps but we can only fit 12 a side.

I hope the original mappers of these maps read this and puts more spawn points in. I guess this is also a plea to all mappers out there to put enough spawn points into your maps for large servers. :D

OK I've discovered a program called Entspy. Apparently using this program you can add/edit spawn points (and other entities) in a source map's bsp without having to require our players having to redownload the map. Has anyone used it before and is it true about the not requiring redownload of maps?

Problem for me since I'm not a mapper is that the spawn points have "origin" and "angle" which are x, y, z coordinates. I can wander around on a map and type status in console which will give me the xyz coord of where I'm standing but it seems kind of hit and miss finding places to put spawn points. Then there is the "angle" thing. What ever that is.

I just need to add 4 spawn points a side on snow_battlefield to make it playable on our servers. On omaha I discovered that the mapper intended there be 15 axis spawn points and 21 allied spawn points. 10 of the allied spawn points return errors so that's why on our server we can only get 11 allies and 12 axis (balancing thing). Any advice on how to get coordinates easily? I'll probably have people appearing in the ground or something. :D

:D

there are several programs out there for editting entities. and yes, they do not require a DL by clients when you change stuff. entities are all server side, so the changes will take effect, but not change client side copies. very handy for adding spawn points, changing models, changing teams (to british in 1.3), ect. I've even added timers and moved flags in some maps.

I don't have a good answer on finding coordinates, but the angle is the direction the player will be facing. looking at an overview 0 would be up, then clockwise from there.
