Textures flashing black in game...

For some reason I can't fathom, textures (namely these roof tile textures) flash black when you look at them from all but a certain angle.

Anyone have any ideas about a cause and/or solution?

You're most probably using model textures, which is a no no for world brushes. You can tell by the path they're in when browsing through them.

Yeah, took me until just recently to figure that one out.

models and world geometry use two different style of shaders, in most cases world geometry uses UnlitGeneric while models usually use VertexlitGeneric. Caused me huge headaches because I didn't know what was going wrong in my map ):

Just look for any texture that says prop or model in the path or texture name.
