These are still very early in development.

I need some advice on how to improve them, any references, or tutorials on weapon skins that would apply well here would be useful. Personal tips would be more welcome.

Comments are welcome as well.

Edit: I realize it gets a little dark on the garand's near side.

Vandal: I like the new look on both weapons especially the garand! I have to question the thompy tho. A bit odd on the right picture, how it's all a pixelated mess but on the left it seems fine. I was going to say it would just be the picture but the hands/sleeves beg to differ. No further comments and no advice whatsoever :p Already liking the look.

Black or zinc phostphating wasn't used until very late war. That means the metal parts on both of your skins should be grey if you're shooting for realism here. As a general rule, larger parts, such as the reciever, barrel, buttplate, swivels, ferrules, barrel bands and most visible parts in the trigger group tend to be parkerized grey. Smaller pieces, such as the rear sight knobs, apertures and front sight assembly tend to be black parkerized. The picture on the main page of "detail strip" showcases this quite nicely.

Also, for super-detailed pics of every last part on the M1, and good references of how your skin could look if you're shooting for realism, head to these links and go through all of them :)

Good luck :) Keep us updated.

*Edit - Also, I'm yet to see ANYONE make a Winchester M1 skin in all these years of DoDing and Winchester made half a million, only during WW2. I owned one, and I'd love to see a replacement skin with the Winchester logo on it. SN 1311108

Add a little more contrast and get rid of the mip mapping, will make it look 10x better.

when you save the file as a .vtf, you should be able to find a little checkbox labled "no mipmap".

That alone would be a nice change making it worth using, but the skin itself is looking very nice. looking forward to a release
