UPDATE: Added the zimmerite'd tank to props_vehicles and split the files up into easier to download chunks.

Alrighty, I've gotten some of the props_ folders done and I figured I'd put them here so could maybe get some playtesting out of you guys and find ones that don't work :)

This dl includes the props_crates, props_doors, props_interiors, props_vehicles and props_exteriors folders. The most obvious changes are the tank and landing craft and the cafe exteriors in dod_anzio.

Beware, this is a big download, 28mb for all of it. Just stick the assorted props_ folders in your materials/models folder.

Beware! Can impact performance having this many normal maps!

What's zimmerite?

Zimmerite was a putty fitted to tanks (primarily German) during the war to help avoid mines. Primarily magnetic mines that would stick to steel surfaces.

This substance was easily applied in the field and proved to be very flame retardant. Zimmerite was also very light and was applied in small squares to make repairs easier if the tank took hits.

It's clearly seen on this image of a model. If you can't see it or refuse to...it's the small square patches...

I could certainly try...

That would be a very nice addition.

Did it just go on the front and sides of the tank like that?

not just, it was also often applied to the turret, and the rear of the tank.

It'd probably be best to just do the front and back to make sure the normal mapping doesn't look overdone.

I know this is very overdone, but is this basically the effect you guys are looking for?

Yeah pretty much. Zimmerite looks about the right depth but the dinks on the running gear is a bit OTT.

Yea, I was messing with the contrast, etc. on the whole thing to get the zimmerrite right. The wheels aren't going to look like that once I isolate the zimmerite.

Is this better?

I put the stuff on the front and back as well but you can't see it. Light is either hitting it straight on or not at all.

It's very nice. It's quite a out of the ordinary addition. Either this is the first time I've ever seen it in a game or just didn't pay any attention to the others I have played.

Added the zimmerite'd tank to download.
