I made a custom player icon, and when i tested them in game, it just shows a purple and black checker board sprite where the player icons are supposed to be. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Sorry, I don't know what would be causing it. It sounds like what's been happening to some of my normal maps, but I have no idea what's been causing it.

My custom icons only went the checker board effect when i used a default or Generated VMT,

I then tried without a VMT and it worked brilliantly.

are you generating a VMT file when you export your pic to VMF?

Other than that im stumped :(

Purple and black checkers are caused by a corrupt or incorrectly located VTF or a missing/incorrect VMT file.

Yeah, there's something really weird about generating a new VMT w/ a corresponding VTF.

For instence...I was working on a reskin and plugged it into DoD and apparently, w/ the VMT alongside the VTF it doesn't work...the servers I tried to join just kept pushing a consistency on me. On removal of the VMT...it worked fine.

So as of right now...it's basically a game of chance.

I actually got it to work now, i was forgeting to put the vmt in the same file as the vtf. Thanks for your help:D

I belive a recent steam update forced consistency on certain materials. Basically anything other than a normal texture and bumpmap in a VMT will give the consistency error.
