select the wall and use the clip tool to cut it up so it can have a hole in it, then if you're up to it use displacement sufaces to make the wall look like its been destroyed properly and not just cut up in hammer.

Nice tutorial. I saw another one on that site where someone cut a wall into a million pieces and just deleted a few of the "slices" and called it done.
