Just thought id share a few screenies of a map im working on, I didnt really want to do a beach map but im doing a series of maps that are intended to follow on from each other so this is where the campaign starts.

there were actually some fairly similar to those. not as tall, but then again they didn't need to be, seeing as there are no cliffs at juno. it was mostly just flat beach and sand dunes.

Use displacements for the blown out holes in the bunkers, they look too clean cut. Also, on the back bunker, make the hole the gun sticks throught wider so it would have space to rotate. Maybe put some cammo netting over it too.

Thanks for the tips guys, Ive only been able to spend about 6 hours on it so far, might get more time this evening.

As for the name Juno was the only name left I think :D so no im not going for historical accuracy just something playable, its very small atm which should provide intense fighting but I intend to extend it beyond the back wall with a tunnel back to a garrison.

Anyways gotta fly thx again for the tips keep em coming and ill asymilate it into the map

Oh and that battery cannon fires every 30 seconds or so and u really dont want to be stood near the barrel when it does :D

As you have said you map has nothing to do with ww2 realism and juno beach so why take over historical name ? Actually, your map is not similar to any of D-Day places.
Your map will probably play well, but due to the above I think you should pick up other name.

I am more than open to suggestions the reason I hit on Juno is because people know what type of map it is.

I would have been supprised if it did look like any of the D-Day places as it was created entirely from my imagination, but it does draw inspiration from them.

Anyway new names on a postcard please :D

I haven't looked into how to make maps yet, but on the subject of the shiny sand:

Would it not be possible to change the light properties?
Or make a new material?

Juno beach, I was there this summer. You should make the beach smaller and put some houses in, just like in the pic.

And thats just what I was trying to avoid, I am trying to be origional with it hance why its not based on any pics, just make with gameplay in mind.

Its not ment to be based on Juno it was just the only name left and had a better ring than Omaha#10102302 and will get re-named soon.

I would like to get this map done and move onto the next stage in the campaign asap as I never really wanted to do a beach map as it's been done to death! so please any comments on what you would like to see in the map and suggestions for improvements are welcome, i.e. I dont like my bunkers but I can put my finger on whats wrong with them!

lol I had to use an online translator and thought dod_liberate sounds tacky & un-original ;)

Had some more time this AM, I have changed the right bunker with a lowered roof and a new roof texture but it still looks wrong to me and I can seem to find something I like so and sugestions welcome

3 Working flags now, all take 2 players to cap but the Def Gun flag is only capturalbe by Allies, Axis spawn in the small building next to the Def Gun

You should add some cover on the beach, like destroyed equipment and craters.
I don't think there is need for these wires, they just increase load on graphics and physics.
This sand look very unrealistic, No sand is so reflective, there is some wrong setting in material parameters.
Otherwise looks quite good. Make playtests before adding details, it will save you a lot of reworking. I wonder what FPS you will get in multiplayer mode.

Put some time into a good looking 3D skybox as well. I didn't like that first beach map that was rushed out the door, it defintely had the "floating island in the middle of nowhere" feel.

I wish I knew how, thats the only sand texture in dod and ive tried all combination of cubemaps and other things to make the sand less reflective, any suggestions welcome.

I may just shorten the beach, it is a bit too long, ill have a look for some destroyed equipment models and see how it looks.

Playtesting isnt far off, id like to run it on a server with a good number of players to see if it works! pretty much the same with the 3D Skybox, I have a theory I work to where if a map looks good without a skybox its going to look great when you add it.

Cant wait for the SDK update as the intention was to have TNT packs to blow out the bottom of the bunkers.

that's a pretty nice map, I want to play it. I think those reflections on the sand have something to do with the water on your map.

thats a good idea i like the whole thing but needs cover on the beach to stop it changing into a mg fest

Still to do
Add more craters to the beach for cover
Add more detial to bunkers and models etc
3D Skybox (incorperating distant cliff's and sea)
Tunnel behind Def Gun to Axis 2nd spawn garrison
TNT Packs (if included an SDK update)
Re-Do the brakeable holes at the bottom of the bunkers with displacments
Add Mortars for axis
Make MG Sandbag nest at top of cliff destructable with bazooka
(and anything else I care to think of later :) )

Lookin good!

Its always a tough one when scattering wreckage on the beach, cos u gotta ask yourself how they got there in the first place? (ie wrecked shermans on charlie)

I like the depth of the beach, and as its not supposed to resemble Omaha, perhaps some rock-cover wont go a-miss?

Well maybe the allies should have a tough time getting off the beach, cos by the looks of the Axis main area, it looks like its game-over pretty quick if enough allies do get through!

sorry, But the basic beach map with the identical bunkers placed in the same exact spot every map , same paths.. yada yada yada...... you get my drfit. Something original will come along.

Well I have been getting a few PM's asking for the beta etc so I stayed up a little later tonight and made it into something that I feel happy enough to let people run arround.

so here it is,

It is not intended to be run on a server at the moment however if you do put it on a server please post the IP as I wouldnt mind seeing how it plays at this stage.

Anyway only things to note with the map are its still got a long way to go, the bunkers have a destructable section on their base about dead centre, look for the discoloured concrete overlay and empty a garand clip or couple of rockets into that to open it up and there are ladders either side.

The Def Gun does fire and will damage you if you are near.

Thats about all folks, hope you enjoy the work so far.
