***UPDATED*** Now With Optional Normal Maps

Dillinger's Gloves
_____________________________

INFORMATION:

This is a redux of my gloves from DoD 1.3 with an all new high resolution texture. Unfortunately, I have not figured out how to make seperate gloves for axis and allies (if that's even possible) so by using these, all your weapons will have the gloves on them.

Normal Map courtesy of BigRedJake -- Thanks for the help in figuring this out!

SCREENSHOT SHOWCASING NORMAL MAP EFFECT:

SCREENSHOTS (Without Normal Map [for those who may not want it]):

Closeup of the texture itself:

INSTALLATION:

Extract the weapons folder to your C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\username@host.com\day of defeat source\dod\materials\models (if materials and/or materials\models folder does not exist, create it)

NORMAL MAP INSTALLATION:

Extract the v_hands_normal.vtf and the v_hands.vmt into the C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\username@host.com\day of defeat source\dod\materials\models\weapons\v_models\hands folder.

Do these have an impact on performance?

Not that I've been able to tell. I did a little study for my buddy who had the same question and my average FPS in the same situation acctualy went up 1 with the maps. You do need to be running dx9.0 for them, though, so if you're running at 8.1 to get better performance you'll lose some in the switch.

Those glove normal maps are lonely, the sleeves need em too. And I just so happened to have released some... :)

How did you learn to make them? Simple NVIDIA tool that can be downloaded from NVIDIA's website. It's a plugin for Photoshop that automatically converts images to normal maps, and you can of course control how much or how little bumpy it is.

BigRedJake made the normal map for these though, as they fit about perfectly.

Nice, I was using my own hand skin until now, but these will occupy my handskin slot for a while, now :)

Use em, then turn em off. You'll notice the difference real quick.

Or if you are looking for ridiculously easy with normal maps, get VTFEdit, and just import any picture file, click generate normal map, set scale (height of normal map) and look at your beautiful normal map.

You wouldn't even be able to tell they were there if I made em any lower, though.
