Can't climb ladders in custom maps!

I've tested out a few custom maps for DOD:S so far and there seems to be one common problem - I can't climb any ladders!!!

I can climb ladders fine in the stock maps. Any ideas?

which custom maps are they? the only 2 i've played are iceworld and omaha, neither of which have ladders. if it's one of the HL2DM ports, it might be that HL2DM uses the more complex ladders, whilst CS:S, and I assume dod:s, use a func_ladder brush. or it could be the other way round - the maps use func_ladders which dod:s might not support.

That's because ladders work differently in Source and in CSS/HL2DM. As long as mappers will be churning out ports of CSS maps using notepad, their ladders won't work.

I know for a fact that the HL2DM maps are ones I had problems with. I'm not 100% sure that others had ladders...

So that's pretty stupid, can't use ladders in the ported maps.. oh well :)

Because HL2DM and HL2 uses different entities, whereas CSS and DoDS use func_ladder which are simpler.

The easiest way I have found yet is to use a model, make a nodraw brush on it with the correct side having a "ladder" texture. Voila.

Thank god. I was starting to panic about the whole ladder issue. "func_ladder" just seems to make alot more sense. Getting on and off at certain points just doesn't.... my brain just can't.... yeah. It's just not logical.

I was about to say that I have a custom map where the ladders work....... but.... I just remembered that that was just a new 1.3 map that I did. So forget that.

It would be ideal to just do away with ladders altogether... except in places where it is absolutely necessary. Maybe use models or crates (preferrably models, ;) ) where you could jump up on to to get from one place to another. Best to use ladders in places like towers, etc.

That's my opinion.

use ripent or EntEditor then find all the ladder entities in hl then replace them with func_ladder and it should be fine.

I try to do this in all my maps, once Waldo started the great ladder purge of offical maps back in the beta days. Caen was a good example of it.
