Yes, but its a lot of work for not much gain.

You'll quickly find that just remaking the darn thing is more time efficient because of how basic it will look.

Alas tis true. Would be fine though for a quickie map. Hardly worth the effort though. IMO the dod source maps might be a bit TOO complex? Sure they look pretty, but they don't run well on lesser systems. If you look at the CS source maps they are far less complex, and frame rates are much better. Of course that's comparing apples to oranges.

It certainly is possible (nothing is impossible if you really put your mind to it ;) )... but as the others above me said, it'll look really basic.
Although Watchtower said that it's more time-efficient to just remake the whole thing, you *could* use the original map, and use the current building placements as temporary placeholders for eventual changes.
The only downside to that idea: It restricts your creativity. You might think like, "Oh. That building looks good enough to me. I don't really have to change it." or, "That building stops right there at the street... so I can't really put anything beyond the street.
Remember, (using FD's blog as a reference), use variations - vertically and horizontally - to break everything up. Old european towns didn't have any formal city planning as they (new cities, or new areas) do now. Buildings will sortof "jut out".
Ok. I kinda went off on a tangent there... but I think you know what I mean.
So there's the advantages and disadvantages from porting the old 1.3/.6 maps to Source.
[EDIT]
Of course that's comparing apples to oranges.LOL! It's more like comparing apples (DOD Source) to mouldy bananas (CS:Source).

i can't remember where i read this, but in avalanche, a lot of the original brushwork still exists in the source version. they obviously added displacements to some, more verts etc, but most of the brushes are still there. that destroyed building at the axis first looks like the exact original, just with displacements and overlays.
that's obviously not the same as just porting though. you need to add props and all that sort of stuff before it looks anything like the official maps. but if you have the .rmf, that would be a good reference to use and build from for an updated version.

It isn't just me, then. Cuz I noticed that that building looks almost exactly the same as it did in 1.3/.6
