The entire beach level in HL2 was almost the length of the gird in hammer. So you could build a map that big.

That could take 4 mins to run from the spawn to the last flag.

Well I've been making a beach map for dod source and it takes 3/4 the length of the hammer grid, takes roughly 2-3 mins to cover the beach, small hill and back area until you can go no futher.
So yer big maps can be done ;)

YES It will help if you move up the spawn as the allies progress
thats sounds like real team based map and I'm in a 'BIG' team!
Do you have a ETA of release of this battle Field?

no eta atm on it, I'm working for a mod called resistance and liberation now and I've taken on another level design project there, so unfortuantly my beach map has taken a nose dive in the way of progress.

honestly we won't really know how huge maps in DOD:S will play until they are built and tested. Like any map in any engine, there is theory and there is application.
I urge any mapper out there with a desire to make a big, open map to please go for it. The greater the variety the maps (and results of playtesting posted here) the better we can all learn just how well source engine performs in multiplayer environments. The 4 official maps right now aren't "huge" so I don't think we've really seen the limits to what the engine can do yet.
I was thinking izuno if a post on what would make a good large map . I know players have been wanting to try out the Iron sites at long range so an open none town or city map would be a thought.
should we start a large map idea?
